I totally missed what it is that you may be staining, Carol.
I had a long interesting day and productive. I came home this afternoon and napped well too. I'm thinking of baking something now.

Good morning from me too---the coffee is good this morning, & so was the bakershop bread---however......

I finally read the minwax polyurethane can---it should really be 77 if I am to wait 3-4 hours for varnishing between coats--well I have today and that is it---

, so here in a few when I am done with my coffee I will do 1 coat & wait say 4-5 hours before the 2nd coat. and then we wait a week before use.--at least THAT bit of time I have.

The very good news??? it is going to be reasonably warm here today. Although the weather station said it was going to be 51 in St Louis--my computer's weather gauge says it is only going to be 44 in my little burg today.

I'm like Tina Carol Jean and don't know what you're staining. We're having our stairs stained today and our person said he will stain in the morning, wait 6 hours, then stain again and we can't use them for 24 hours.

Hi everybody!

It is 8 degrees here today and quite windy.

Although I don't feel up to it, I am going like crazy to get everything done before I have to go in the hospital on Tuesday. We're managing well but everything seems so much more difficult when one doesn't feel well.

Today when I was at Wal-Mart, I picked up useful items (diapers in two sizes, bar soap, sanitary pads, toilet paper and some food items) for a local Essentials Pantry.

The pantry in my town and the town nearest me in either direction do not accept non-food donations. However, the Essentials pantry up in Portland does, and yesterday I found out about another one in the opposite direction, down in Biddeford.

So, since I had a car load of things to donate anyway -- mostly warm stuff like throw blankets and long winter scarves -- I thought I would grab some other items at Wal-Mart.

The priest who runs the pantry in Biddeford told me how much those items are needed and I'm telling ya, I am delighted to have found a place to donate necessities! I was careful to teach my girl how to get there so she'll be able to run down there for me often with donations.

Well, what I'd really like to do in January is make some sort of hot lunch and take it down in a crock pot. They've turned the pantry into more of a meeting place. It is open four days a week and is very nice. There is an area for eating or playing games/doing homework. There is a seating area for just conversation. There is another room w/ computers to help people gain skills or write resumes. It is a place where locals can go and be with others rather than sitting at home alone. They always have hot drinks and pastries but I thought it would be good to take maybe a pot of meatballs for sandwiches or one of my thick chowders.

The town where this pantry is located used to be a very prosperous mill town, right at the mouth of the Saco River. But the mills have closed and oh man, the city is hugely economically depressed. It makes me sad just to drive through there.

Ok I just spent a great deal of time explaining in depth what I was doing----and it is GONE---as I do not have the time right now, here is a reader's digest version.

Rod decided to make the girls a trunk as his gift to them for Christmas

he waits until last minute to begin and then tells me I get to do the finishing part. (THAT part had not been mentioned before)
It is a nice idea but the timing is WAY off, on many levels.

Thankfully, this is the second one that I am working on, the first being done.---because of the time envolved in letting the polyurethane dry before using it, and the temperatires I need to finish both coats of polyurethane today.



And Sheri: Thanks for the card from you too, it got here today.

Long day and a long evening. I am ready to turn in. Another long day ahead is chasing me to bed. But tomorrow is Ted's last day of school for the year. I foresee a few mornings of being able to sleep in.

Good Morning all...I am on my second cup.

Well, I need to say I have the best Husband in the world.
last night after I was complaining about "my project" not being dry he took the electric heater out in the garage & took my hair dryer to the 2 pieces to dry them---He even left the door to the house open until he went to bed, to warm up the garage.==then this mornng he told me to move all my workings into the kitchen. I fixed up my bar and he brought in the 2 pieces----I am so happy--NOW I can go get today's shopping done early, before the snow/rain and then come home & varnish----not to mention it will dry more quickly in the house. As an added bouns I cannot use the stove---he does not want the fumes to come in contact with any gas--that is why I am not doing this in the basement---we have a gas water heater there.

Yep I am a very happy camper---
but don't get to impressed---this way Rod will get to put the truck in the garage & it is supposed to be snowy & such tonight & tomorrow.

But hey--we will both win this way---yep I AM one happy camper---

Good morning. I am up and getting ready for Friday.

I finished my Christmas shopping today. I got the last box off in the mail. I need to wrap some of the stuff. I am not sure I would be wrapping anything but Ted does enjoy unwrapping things so much.

Gee Tina, I enjoy unwrapping gifts myself---wrapping is not just for kids---
and I love watching people unwrap gifts----much to the enjoyment of my kids !!

to continue the trunk saga---today I finished sanding and applying the 2nd coat of polyurethane to the 2nd trunk----it is just about dry now---so I am sure that either by tomorrow night or sunday afternoon Rod will be able to assemble this last trunk--(add the hardware)--then it can dry out for the week it is supposed to-and have plenty of time to have gifts added to it for Christmas.

The bottom line is I am DONE !!!!! yea !!!!

and oh---with the exception of 1 gift-(a watch for my MIL) and 1 gift card to petsmart---I am officially done Christmas shopping. yea !!!!!

All wrapped now, Carol. No worries.

I am not depressed or in a bah-humbug mood. As a matter of fact, I am pretty happy and satisfied these days. I am just not ready for Christmas and all it brings. I may be ready in July for Christmas, so I may just drag in a tree and decorate it. I just don't know.

Carol I'm so glad things have gone so well w/ your refinishing of the trunks. Great job, girlie!!



I did not think this week would ever end. I'm so glad it did!

I was getting concerned about how I was going to finish up the last of my Christmas shopping when I'll be gone two days next week and who knows how I will feel afterwards?

Today a friend volunteered to finish up for me, and I am so relieved!

My energy is at an all time low... I'm sure I'll perk back up though after Tuesday.

Maxi is at his Karate Christmas Party. I way overestimated how much filling it would take to make a platter of sandwiches on Club rolls (some people call them Finger Rolls). I bought about two or three times more than needed!

I may be making up another platter to take on Sunday morning for the cast party after the pageant!

Tina, yes I understand---next year y9u may feel more in "the spirit" If I were in your shoes I dont know if I would be putting u p a tree or any of it, either---you must forgive me--sometimes I tend to let things slip my mind

I do not think this has much to do with the doings of this year, John's illness or death. This has more to do with my mind and focus being mostly outside of the house. Or when I am inside I am cooking. All of this brings me a lot of happiness and satisfaction. I smile a lot. I do not want the distractions of feeling I have to shop for gifts. No stress no drama. Christmas is Christmas whether you have a tree or decorations or not. All in all we are doing pretty well.

I am glad that you are happy & that you all are well, Tina.

I think I am going to call it early tonight everyone---so night nite---sleep well my friends....

Hi all,
I spent the morning doing my budget for next yr... since I was kidless figured it was a good day to do it with no distractions... now I am glad its done and I even added the template to my computer so I can just print it out as it needs changes during the yr... now if I could just get the tax stuff organized soon too....
I am done except for Joe and I for Christmas... got a couple little things tonight at Sam's for the twins... books ... going tomorrow for Joe to pick out something he wants and then get some shirts for myself from him...LOL I have to pick them out... he has no taste at all...
I even redid my antivirus stuff.. so thats done for another yr on both puters...
I am going to start baking cookies tomorrow ... need to vacuum too... the boys brought rocks in yesterday,or there friend from next door did I think,, I try to catch him and make him wipe his feet good or take off his shoes but didn't , our boys know to do it so think it must have been his .... well better go and get ready for bed... it's been a long day of a lot of brain work...makes me as tired as working hard...
