Last year I grew some onions and harvest time I dug them up and stored them in my garage. Well The other day I noticed that the two of the bulbs that I left in the garage had started to sprout.

My question is...should I replant these bulbs or toss them in the garbage? Thanks I'm sorry for such a noobie question. TG

You don't have to be sorry! We all start somewhere and this is a wonderful place to learn!

I have never grown onions so I can't help you out but somebody with more knowledge will more than likely be along shortly and will answer your question for you!

Welcome to the forum!

Thanks for the warm welcome and thanks for the advice.

I figured I would snap a pic and maybe hope for some more advice. From what I remember I picked up some onion seedlings from the local nursery last spring.

They were some kind of sweet yellow Spanish onion. Here is the pic. Thanks again. TG

hi, your onions will be fine and if you have potato's that have grow sprouts or "eyes" you can plant each growth and have more.potato's were the first thing I grew by myself. It was a project for school when I was six and been gardening ever sense.

You'll end up getting seeds from it..

When you purchase onions' to grow,
they've started them, then pulled them,
for you to grow that year..

If you harvest at the end of the season, and store
like you did..
And replant..

The onion will be on it's "2nd Season" so to speak,
and will then shoot up greenery, flower and give you
lot's of tiny, shiney black seeds..

Thanks for the info!

I have now learned that most onions are Biennial's...

Replantining the bulb that I posted a picture of above...would have not produced any more onions this year! I think. (Although it would certainly make seeds for me next year!).

So I tossed them in the garbage...

Thanks for the help!

Oh, how I wished you would have planted it..

They have a beautiful delicate white flower
and those flowers attrack benefical bugs to your garden..

They really are alot of fun to grow, and watch...

You are right...when you plant an onion of that size you will get seeds only.

This so so interesting! How do you harvest the seeds?
