I took down my suet feeders when the grackles were taking over my yard. Maybe I should try them again.

When they came to my house they ate every seed and every bit of suet in a matter of mintues then pooped all over the side of the house and driveway. I changed to safflower seeds. Remember Diane was posting about it too. Since changing seeds they haven't been at the house but they're still in the pecan orchard and up in the trees in the back field. There are hundreds of them. I did put out sunflower seeds yesterday so we'll see. I've got a BB gun. Funny thing is Lizzy, the killer cat, attacks all sorts of birds but never a grackle.

The one with the Red "V" is a Northern Flicker, probably the Yellow-Shafted variety, There is a Red-Shafted Flicker that is found further west of us, Dodge. Here is the ONLY picture I have ever gotten of one. I took this just about a year ago across the street from my house. This is a Yellow-Shafted variety. I think it is a female, which would make it a Mother-Flicker. YELLOW-SHAFTED NORTHERN FLICKER ![[Linked Image]](http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a327/Thornius/NorthernFlicker04.jpg)
