GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD Morning Cindy!!! So good to see you here!

Merme - the thing about the train stations, is that all the trains come in at the sub-ground level, so he'd have to walk up the stairs to get up to the main floor and find his family, but one pretty much goes with the flow of the crowd getting off the train to do that. Don just confirmed with me that they could meet him right at the gate where they all come off the train, and he feels that would be fine for Maxi - just his opinion of course. Amy now takes the trains and subways at all hours of the day and night and feels quite confident about them.

Good Morning Lynne & Merme.

AND a special welcome & good morning to Miss Cindy

we had lots of snow---like 4-5 minches---it is 11*F now, but the wind chill has it below zero easy. tomorrow night it will actually drop below zero and the wind chills are expected to go as low as -30. egad

I have been up since 5:15. I got up with the boy. (read Rod)

I made sure he had all of his bad weather gear, including his car charger for his phone. You see he took my car (a Blazer). he got to work just fine but the traffic was going like 45 on the interstate.
so since I have been busy making a from scratch banana cake & banana flavored frosting. while I wait for the cake to cool so I can add the frosting, I decided to come & say hi to you all. Now here soon I need to go put supper in my slow cooker.

Is it nap time yet???? lol

I am taking a cool down break. I've been working outdoors. Hauling wood, tearing ivy, raking up piles. It feels strange to have bare arms and I wouldn't if I wasn't moving. It is still a little cool for me without if I'm sitting still too long. It is 67* on my shady back porch but sunny out in the open.

Thank you again, Lynne. That's valuable information.

Carol Jean, you should post that banananana bread & frosting recipe in recipes!

I hope Miss Cindy wakes up feeling well enough to visit again. I'm sorry I missed her.

Well gee, Carol, I hope Rod likes the cake so I can try some! lol

Maxi had a TON of homework tonight. I helped him plow through it all. I couldn't believe how much he had for one night! Now he is finished and is in the shower. I don't think he'll be up much longer.

He wanted to put off doing some of the work until tomorrow or the weekend. I told him no, because I want him to have peace of mind. And the best way I know of to have peace of mind is to have your work completed and turned in. Then it doesn't plague your thoughts! I want him to sleep well and be happy in the morning; not fretting over incomplete work!

So, he is relieved he got it done and I'm glad for him.

That sounds great, Merme. I wish I hadn't been such a procrastinator as a student - my kids both are too, but I can't really say much since I was the same way. But your way is so much better and you are absolutely correct about having peace of mind that things are finished.

I am knitting another gnome - this time for one of Amy's best friends who is like another daughter to me - they've been friends since 1st grade. She was gushing over one that I had knit for Amy a year ago, when she was here New Years' Eve, so I thought I'd make her one for her birthday in March and send it to her at college - should be a nice surprise for her - she's a very sweet girl.

Oh Lynne your new gnome is such a very nice thing for you to do for this girl. I'm sure she'll adore it, especially knowing you made it for her!

I just think kids Maxi's age can develop enough real worries that they shouldn't also have to worry over assignments. My goal is just to keep him on a clear, as-worry-free-as-possible path. Then when the bigger, real worries come, maybe they won't overwhelm him.

I would not want to be a teenager again for anything! yikes

I think you are giving him great tools that he'll have the rest of his life, Merme. Wish I could do some things over again, ya know?

I agree with you both----Teaching maxi good learning skills now will help him in his whole life from here on out, in many areas.

I would be a teen again---but only IF I get to know all that I do now-----I would have some REAL fun---and not let all the stupid stuff 'get' to me, ya know???

Oh you two are making me laugh! lol Being a teen, to me at least, implies NOT knowing all we know as adults! And I'll take a pass on that, thanks!!

Gotta make some Red rose Tea and shut the house down for the night....

Safe away home O my palies, and sweet dreams to you all.

first let me say good morning. breakfast
Then let me say it is 9*F--with wind chills being in the minus areas.
and we have nice strong winds........

by Sunday it is going to be a cozy 22. rolz

I didnt even get dressed yesterday, and it is supposed to be colder today & then even colder tonight. Today I am going to need to find some heavy clothes to help keep me warm. The poor furnace was off like 1 time all of yesterday.

I cleaned off my "sick" christmas cactus last night, just to be safe. I guess not watering it, and isolating it, for a week cured whatever ailed it, because I see nothing on it now. Later today I am going to put it in a nicer pot, (it is now in a small plastic one) and while I am at it, I will change out most if not all of the soil, just in case. Then I will let it go and hopefully by next year this time I will see some blooms. why
This one is the pinkish/purple one I bought right before Christmas.

yes it sure has--esp. here in all of this cold.

I was having a conversation with a guy I know the other day. WE decided that pewople have forgotten how it was cold like this every year back when we were in school. People have short memories.

I wil be glad when this "cold snap" leaves though. The weather stations are saying it has not been this cold in this area since 1999.--Perhaps it can get warmer & wait another 10-11 years to do this again, huh??? I'm sure ready !!!

BTW Happy Birthday Elvis !!!

Boy I lost track of time ... till I read it was Fri. I thought it was Thurs... thats what happens when sleep is elusive- but last night was pretty good for me...
Woke up to the sun out... but it isn't warm...32* now... just took Nicoli to school- Carrie is off applying for a job... her store might be closing so she is trying to be prepared...
I got my laundry going.. and I am going to go lemon oil my wall unit/entertainment center and put everything back together on it...try to think of something to make for dinner... maybe the good old standby chicken... sounds good to me- oven baked and some roasted taters with it....
Well off to get oily and make it shine... have a good day all!

wavy

We seem to be sharing the same arctic blast you have, Lynne! We've been down to 2 degrees and our high was 18. I hope you found some very warm clothes!

Carol Jean stay in as much as you can...

Nana you must be improving if you are cooking and willing to eat again AND polishing furniture! While I'm not glad you are working hard, I am glad you are feeling a bit better.

Maxi and his friend Dom have been out sledding and working on his snow fort. They are headed in and called to ask for some hot chocolate.
