Hi I started working at a new hospital and I am surprised to see so many plants on the window sills. One particular plant caught my eye and I wanted to get a clipping to grow at home. However, I have no clue what the name of the plant is. The nurses told me that the plants have been there for years and no one knows who placed them there, they just water them every now and then. So I was wondering if you could help me ID the plant, and tell me how to propagate it. Or at least ID the plant and then I can look up how to propagate it on my own.

Thank you very much for your help. also I'd like to mention that I am in NJ and thus it's winter out here and I wanted to know if I could also propagate it in the winter, or if there's any downside to propagating plants in the winter.

Welcome Novice.
You have there a very nice Crown of thorns (euphorbia milii). They will grow from cuttings. They need a fast draining soil like a cactus mix. And water when the soil is dry. And bright indirect light is best. They may stay in bloom all winter if brought in in your zone. They can be put outdoors in summer.
Propagating houseplants in winter can be done. The new growth on some plants may be slow to start.

I agree. You have a beautiful Crown of Thorns. I had one (gave away when we moved) that was 50 years old and still blooming. The only problem was that it and my Chrismas cactus were both confused and instead of the Crown of Thorns blooming at Easter and the Christmas cactus blooming at Christmas, they reversed themselves. I think they were trying to play a trick on this old gal. Either way they are both beautiful. Wish I had another Crown of Thorns to go with my still confused CC.
