I'm making dinner and Maxi and his pal Dom came in from building their snow fort. Now they are on the laptop, excited about tomorrow's trip to go snow tubing.

I am in for the day. But may be in and out for the evening with t-storms.
Boy with Tamara here we really blew through CH's. But that is not a bad thing at all.

How did your dinner turn out tonight, Carol?

Ours was good.

I fell asleep afterward while Maxi was listening to Phantom of the Opera.

This is me being HAPPY! YAY!!

I am posting from my own PC, hallelujah!

I called my nephew/computer guru to ask what was wrong with my monitor? He was still asleep but his girlfriend told me what to do and it worked perfectly! YAY! And we're back!

My monitor would not come out of "power save" mode! The screen stayed black but would give a message to press any key to make it come out of power save. I pressed keys galore and it wouldn't respond.

My nephew's girlfriend told me to manually shut off the computer and let it reboot. I did and it worked!

She said sometimes a glitch will occur in which the pc is telling the monitor to stay in power save.

I'm relieved it was nothing serious!

Popping in on this whiteout of a day - so far about 9 inches here and the plow guy just did our driveway for the first time today. The snow is supposed to get heavier as the day progresses!

I've just had oatmeal too - yummy and good for the tumyy on a wintery day! I added golden raisins and fresh blueberries to mine.

I was a bit concerned that my daughter would miss her only class for today since the weather is bad. She has to walk 25 minutes to get to the academic area of NYU, and it's also snowing in NYC. When I first checked their website, about 2 hours ago, it said that all classes were open as usual today. Don just told me that they just changed it - all classes that begin after 12:30 have been cancelled for today and the entire university is closing as of 1p.m. Her class is at 2. I am so glad for that, as Amy cannot miss this class that she had today, and I'm sure she would not have gone in this weather - can't blame her for that.

Both my guys are home today also, so it's not like a regular weekday for me.

I'm home!

Am glad Amy's class was canceled in a timely manner! Glad everyone is home w/ you, Lynne.

This morning I was wondering again how you & Don made out w/ your visit to CT. What kind of shape are you guys in today?

Today my alarm clock didn't go off again. I was awake already, waiting for it because I've thought lately it hasn't been working. So my girl taught me how to set Maxi's cell phone. We'll use that until I get another alarm.

Our snow hasn't started yet. They are calling for a dusting.

The manager to our complex just stopped by. He said our fuel bill was unusually high this month. He took apart my thermostat and adjusted something he said wasn't set right. My bill should go down now! YAY!

So far we have about 10 inches - can't tell how much more we've gotten since it got dark this evening. Pretty much everything stopped today, including mail delivery and recyling pick-ups. This is the second Wed. in a row that we did not have pick-ups - our garage is overflowing with glass, plastics, and newspapers!!!

HI!

Nana I'm so glad your appointment went well. I had early cataracts and had them removed at age 42 and went ahead with the interocular lens implants as well. I've never regretted the decision or the surgery since. It was a quick recovery time also and my lenses perform great.

The only trouble people typically have with the lens implants is easily resolved. The man-made lens do not refract (bend) light as well as your natural lenses do. So, there are times when you'll turn your head to a certain angle to the light and you'll see the rainbow prism effect!

So, most people invest in those very dark, oversized sunglasses -- the kind with the rim which prevents light from coming down behind the glasses and they also have the sides shaded as well. Usually less than $20.

As Joe pointed out, those implants will perform for you in a way that ordinary glasses will not.

Also glad to hear Joe's surgery can wait a bit.

Merme

Good luck with your lenses, Nana! They can perform miracles with eyes these days!

My mom has been complaining of double vision to her eye dr. up here in NY for a few years now. He didn't know what it was, and just tossed it up to a connection with her Parkinsons.

Well a friend of my parents in Florida recommended an eye dr. there, and mom went on Monday. This dr. performed 4 hours of tests and came up with 2 things. She has a freckle on one of her eyes - a pretty common thing, and nothing to do about that. BUT... he is making her new glasses with prisms specified to her vision - he says she should be able to read again - she loves reading for relaxation and hasn't been able to for years! What a difference a different dr. can make!!!

that is so good to hear about your mom, Lynne.

I so hope that she wil be able to read again

I was watching a medical show about a baby boy with a rare disease. the mom said you need to keep going to Drs until you can find one that will listen to you and take you seriosuly.
then the dr said not all Drs know everything--one needs to shop around untikl yo get a dr who knows how to help you.

it took then 4 years to find what was wrong with him. they were even going to specialists

One way to find reliable doctors is to ask your primary who he works with the most AND who he sees himself.

If you mention "I am thinking about seeing Dr. Smith" and your primary says "Oh, Joe? I know him well! Great doc! I (or my wife) see him." That is a strong endorsement. If, on the other hand, your doc (who of course is well connected) says "I do not know Dr. Smith. Let me know what you think of him..." that is something else altogether!

Once I made the mistake years ago of having a primary care doc whose office was near where I live but didn't have privileges up at the big hospital in town.

It turned into such a mess! He didn't know & didn't have relationships with all my other docs. When I was in the big hospital, he couldn't come see me and was totally out of the loop!

Never again!

Yes I am finding that with many dr.s here and their hospital priviledges.

I do not care for my internist anymore and am looking to change to another, so I wouldn't ask her right now for a referral. I need to find one that I do like in this area - Don uses a guy in NYC, but that is not good for things that need immediate attention since we are 40 miles out of the city.

that distance strikes a cord in me because that is just about the same distance I had to go for Drs that treated me thru all of my "troubles".

my Gastroenterologist,(total mesh repair) my 2 Orthopedic Drs. (shoulder & spine care) & my gynocologist are all about 45 miles away, but in the same complex--AND, remember, I do not drive in the kind of traffic or the type of roads there are that lead there.

BUT I go/went there because that is what is best for me.

after being messed up on 3 surgeries, going to Drs. & hospitals that were "convienient", I decided that what was best was what I was going to do.-- it was very taxing on my family, but I felt it was necessary.

I wish you luck my friend, please keep me posted as to how you are doing. kissie

I am going to bed now everyone--nity nite wavy

I always get docs associated with a teaching hospital or a University hospital. They tend to stay on the cutting edge of latest knowledge and techniques and the younger docs are overseen by the older ones.

The difficulty w/ a teaching hospital and docs is that you end up exposed to many more people than is comfortable because they want all the learners to learn. So, your doc might walk in with a group of 7 or 8 student docs! At the office though, it most probably will only be one or two student docs.

And you are right, Lynne, you don't want to drive 40 miles for urgent care.

Up here people are brought by helicopter to my hospital because they don't have much up north.

I'm about 16 miles away, which isn't bad, but when I'm on the ambulance with another heart attack, those 16 miles seem like 1600. lol
