...just wondering if anyone does something special to celebrate. DD and I used to make special heart decorated cookies to give out to friends and family.

We like to make our own cards, cookies & confections....as the saint said of old "Remember your Valentine".
I like it that we remember this man who did so much to help prosecuted Christians during the reign on Claudius II until his martyrdom in 270. Legend has it that he not only assisted Christians in distress but he was especially kind to Christian couples and would perform marriages which were illegal under Claudius II but not in the eyes of the church....
We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart? The other heart was given to another for us to find.
The girls & I used to make valentine cookies too. but now I ususlaly just send them a card & some $$. Then I make a small bag of candy & perhpas something they need, (ex. is grading stickers for Valarie)
Then every year since we have been married, I have bought a box of a 3 piece choloclate set (rather large) for Rod that says: I :ding: U and a card. well this year I could not find it. But I did fine little individually wrapped chocolates that are formed into the same shapes, so I bought that instead.

I used to make a cheesecake in a heart shaped mold every year - it had a graham cracker crumb bottom, cheesecake filling, and canned red cherries on the top.
I give everyone a card, and the past few years my kids have gotten a small check.
My husband used to give me flowers until I told him that while I appreciated it, cut flowers were wasted money on me - I'd much rather have a plant, or just a card - I really don't need anything, especially since times are much tighter these days. He has a favorite small chocolate shop where he buys their small chocolate hearts that are wrapped in red and pink foil - he usually tapes 1 to our cards, and then we eat the rest in the bag.
well Barb--I decided that I was NOT going to dig out the mixer just to make him cupcakes. he will have his chocolate, & his card--he can make do with that. Esp since it ios more than I wil get.
but seriouisly now, do you like the kitchen aide? do you h ave several types of beaters or just 1 set?? how well do the rounded beaters work??? are the rounded beaters any different form ther con ventional flat beaters ?? sorry about all of the questions, but.... As they cost 2 times what the others do, I want to be sure about it, before I spend that much money on one.

I would LOVE to have a Kitchen Aid~never gonna happen ($400 here). I bought DH some foil wrapped chocolates and a box of Russel Stovers..the others in the family got small chocolate treats as well.
I miss having little ones(day-care kids)in the house when holidays come around.

Tam, that's $69 for the HAND MIXER. The STAND MIXER by Kitchen Aide is $300+
I've always wanted one of their stand mixers, but I can't spend more than $300 for one!

I have the 300 watt and it had quite a while. It was under $200. at that time an still holds about that price today.
I have a round beater and a flat one for bread. Flat isnt my thing for bread. It isnt easy to get the dough out . I love he thing for dependibility. Holds itself still an I can work away. Stainless bowl is a charm. All easy to clean except the bread thing.
Quite a few years I had it. I scraped to get it , an it probably outlasted about 4 outher s.. No problem mixing . My arm killed me to hold one by hand.
Dodge very nice table centerpiece you have there---very nice !!!

I thought I said Hand Mixer--sorry I was confusing, Tamara.
I have a GE stationary mixer. it works plenty good for how often I use it. But as I do not have the counter space to keep it out, it is a pain to get out & use. so now that my HAND MIXER has died, I want a good hand mixer to replace it.
I may just bite the bullet & get the Kitchen Aide, at least if I do it should outlast me, huh????
..although several others have several types of beaters included in the one set---we shall see.....

I always buy those $10 mixers now~although I have to replace them every year. My next one will be a Proctor-Silex stand mixer($60)~more convenience...maybe for Mothers Day.

My dad's birthday is the same as George's! I wish the country would celebrate George's real birthday still, instead of making one Presidents' Day.
