A Gardeners Forum Forums General Discussion The Banter Hall I ran my first race today!

We started off at 9:35 this morning for a 5K race around Greenlake, the lake where I learned to run and have been training. It was about 46 degrees and overcast, perfect running weather. I made it to the finish line in 35 minutes and 25 seconds. That's my official time. It was so much fun, I'm officially addicted to running. Here's a pic of me before the race.

I had to replace the cigarettes with something, lol. Next month I'm doing a St. Patrick's Day themed race. Can't wait!

well, Barb if he thinks like my DH does, he is thinking of all the bad things that can happen to you while you are out walking.
So now that he is home to see what it is you do, he is finding things to say & do to keep you safe...

just a notion--I know that would be Rod's notions.

When the kids were small, when he would leave for work h e would say "watch the girls" like I wouldn't do that if he didn't tell me to.

I miss walking and jogging as well, between the bears and the highway they ran through..it's not safe anymore.

Thanks everyone! My goal is to do a race every month. I'm eye balling a 10K in August and I'm even considering the idea of a half marathon in November, we'll see.

merme is right we are ALL proud of you. when you are running rememebr, we are all behind you.

I for one would definitely be behind you. Way behind - like laying on the side of the road gasping for breath.

This was my exact thought.

I wasn't sure if I should start a new post or just put it here so I decided to just add it here. I ran my second race today I didn't do as well as I'd originally hoped but considering I haven't been running in a couple of weeks I didn't do too bad either. I did learn one thing for sure, I need to practice inclines, I'm not so good at going uphill, I came home, made myself breakfast and then sat in a hot bath for awhile. Now I'm really tired from not sleeping well coupled with daylight savings change so I think I'll take a nap and then update my blog. Here's a pic of me and my (little) brother after the race.
