It was a gift last spring - they told Moira it has to come in for the winter, so I did so.

She never did get the name of it - guess that's my job.

It made lovely red trumpet flowers all summer; I eventually put it in the fence along with some tall purple mallow.

It looks like a mandevilla to me, Carly. And yes they are pretty tropical and would need to come inside in your zone.

Dunno', Tina - I just googled 'mandevilla' and none of that species looks like my leaves and flowers there.

Did you have a particular 'kind' of mandevilla in mind?

I was pretty sure it was mandevilla, Carly, from your picture. I have a couple of them, all red flowering.

OK - thanks, Tina - and hi Alan . . . thanks for your response.

I'm going to go with that - mandevilla splendens . . .

I've put it out in the garden again - here it is under the light fixture, with a rabbit and deer someone brought me last week . . .

It has no flowers yet, of course.

Oh, and btw - I notice it makes 'runners'. With tiny leaves on them. I cut them off and cut them up. They are in a small pot with hormone on the tips - I'm hoping to see them grow.

The next runner I see, I'll leave it there and see if I can twine it up the light fixture.
