Actually Red-Bellied. That's a male Red-Bellied Woodpecker. The FEMALE Red-Bellied have a GRAY cap on top of the head with a red neck. The MALES have BOTH a red cap and a red neck. Nice picture, Dodge!

Below here are THE very seeds that Sheri & I are going to plant together. She found them and sent them to me. Isn't she wonderful??? I am so hoping that I get them to grow.--I bet the birds do to!!! P.S. she also sent me the nicest brown slipper/socks that have leopard fake fur around the edge, they are so toasty to wear!!! ![[Linked Image]](http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff68/JunieGirl_2007/sunflowerseeds002.jpg) I can hardly wait for it to be warm enough so I can plant them !!!!

I grow Black Oil Sunflowers. I don't plant them. They just fall out of the feeders and sprout on the ground and I let them grow to maturity and photograph the birds eating the seeds out of the flower heads. I never fool with the giant Russian Mammoth Sunflowers. They are a little TOO big for my tastes, but we once had some next door neighbors from Latvia who were GREAT gardeners and brought us fresh produce all the time, including the Russian Mammoth Sunflowers.

well I will tell ya all what-----if the bird sunflower seeds do germinate & grow--I'll send Sheri some of mine & we can try BOTH kinds of seeds at once.---what say you , sheri????? I thought I would plant mine on the west side of my raised garden, so they could shade my tomoatoe plants that I will have on the eats side of them. Does that sound like a plan???

ok I tried to buy us some black sunflower seeds yesterday, and I found all kinds of SF seeds but not any Black oil SF seeds, so we may just have to use the bird seed ones. it is not snowing here--today--but like I say it will be the first part of may likley before I can--we shall see what the nurseries say

black oil seeds brought the grackles here in droves,, my yard was a sea of black until I stopped buying them. Grackles are really bad here Once they realize BOS are being used they seem to let all the grackles in the city know it,

Yeah I plant the Black Oil Sunflower seeds that come in the bags of bird seed. They don't sell any small packets like they do for oh say Marigolds or Zinnias.

Yeah I plant the Black Oil Sunflower Seeds that come in the bags of bird seed. They don't sell any small packets like they do for oh say Marigolds or Zinnias. well I looked & I looked and nope I could not find any Black Oil sunflower seeds to go with our Mammoth SF seeds, so for Sheri & I I bought some Black Oil from Rural King. I am going to get hers in the Mail today. and BTW The BO sunflower seeds in Rural king were half the price of the ones here in an Ace Hardware here closer to me---so I bought more than we would need for seed, so the birds are in luck.

the field--now there is an idea--I think I may call the guy who owns the field in back of me, perhaps he would let me grow mine there---otherwise I only have an 8 ft stretch that I can use.
