EXCELLENTE! I got a picture of one yesterday, TOO! Plants, you have them in New York. They like grassy, open fields with scattered clumps of trees, like pastures or golf courses. Here's mine from yesterday.

Well all of the backyards on my side of the street were clearcut way back in 1978 when they built these houses and no one has planted any trees, so it's a wide open grassy field, with trees at the bottom of the lawns in the conservation easement.

None of us has ever seen any around here at all, and believe me I am very conscious of which birds are here.

I had 1 family of bluebirds one time back when I was out on the farm yet. the 'couple" had a family of 4 eggs. Then once we had a bad wind/rain storm & we found one of them in our front yard drowned. later we found all the eggs dumped out of the nest on the ground under the bluebird box & the mate was gone.

I was so sad.... tears

I left my box at the farm---there is no real place to put one here now---

I should have never consented to moving to a house that was sitting in the middle of a field. egad

I guess the next people will be happy campers though--all the trees & bushes should be well established by then & that should make the birds & such very happy. why

You were not a happy camper. In my area, if I put up a for sale sign on my farm. It would be sold by noon.

Every year someone wants to buy it .
One fellow calls daily , we put in an answer machine to stop it .

A widow doesnt have to farm the farm, she can rent it out an go to town to work.
All the farms are going to developements here, and they are making big bucks.
my neighbor just built a house in the middle of a field.

My broter sold my daddys farm. Today he regrets it an wishes he still had it.

Your the type who belongs in town.
Farmers love their farms, just like you city folks love your streets an stores.

Barb: I am in town because my husband thought he had cancer just like his daddy before him.
added to that my DH's good friend had just died of cancer leaving his wife all alone (no kids) on a large farm, not able to care for it, & not able to make the decisions that would have to be made, to either keep it and rent it out as you say could be done, or tend to it herself. He saw what that was like for her and he did not wish to put me thru that.
he also did not want me to have to try to care for our older far buildings & house, not to mention cut 5 acres of yard & pasture by myself.

given my health now, that was a good choice.

So, he sold the farm and bought & paid for a brand new house for me, on a smaller piece of ground that I could care for if need be. I just wish it had some good soil & some older, well established, trees.

I am happy to say that in the end he did not have the cancer.

But I am still moved and I still wish I were back on my 5 acre farm, even though this is best.

I miss being out there.

Sometimes we just have to bloom where we are planted. Your husband was doing what he thought right to take care of you. I pitched a fit when Johnny bought this house after I had told him twice that I didn't want to live here. I actually left for a few days.

We put our bird house on a pole in the middle of our field. Stick one out there and they will find it. Come to think of it we don't have any of our bird houses attached to trees.

How do you want me to answer that ?

I stuck the birdhouses on the tree cause it was easy........

Not everyone is cut out for country........I was born an raised on a farm with cows. We had more cows than kids. 10 kids an my parents.
So they put us to work on the farm.

We bought our own hobby farm an continued .. I love the feeling I get from working hard with my hands an feet?
No need for tread mills.

You live where you want to live.....I arent moving ..LOL

i dont have to dress for success.

I wasn't trying to argue with you dodge I was trying to make Carol Jean feel better. I live in the middle of nowhere, just like you, and it's ok now.

No problem.

She belongs in town taking it easy..
Life isnt easy on a farm.
But my neighbors arent that far away. But we stick to ourselves . Not our type.
fancy city types with white carpeting , kick the kids out to play no matter what the weather. Dont want them to dirty the new houses.

thumbup Just like you said, farm life isn't for everyone. You know that we don't really farm we just live on what used to be an 950 acre farm and we just have 7 acres.

I'm going to try and get a picture of the bluebirds building a nest in the house if it stops raining. They're so pretty. We've got mealy worms to put out.

Sheri--thanks so much for understanding.

It is very hard for me at times.
I esp. miss the beautiful trees and my wonderful fertile black dirt.

I watered trees every night all summer long for years (while they were young trees) and who is enjoying my beautiful trees? why well it is not me!!!

But Rodney did what he thought was best, and I had to respect that, so I agreed with him about the move.

you have taken a very nice photo, there. VERY nice.

BTW: How is your arm ??
