Glenda, The Good Witch of the North, had had ENOUGH of those repulsive Munchkins, with their dancing and SHRILL singing, and RIDICULOUS clothing and hairstyles. So one day, halfway to the Munchkin City in the county and the land of Oz, Glenda said, 'To HECK with it', stripped off her clothes, dived out of her bubble, and ran off to live with the trolls.

gnomes are TOO much like Munchkins. After Glenda's breakdown, she needed a COMPLETE change of venue.

She changed her name to Glenda. The trolls had too much trouble pronouncing the name, "Glinda". (They're not very bright).
