Today Maxi competed in National History Day state finals in Augusta. He won 1st place, best in state, for an historical paper, junior division! He also won for "best use of primary resources" in his research!
His father and I were present for his win. I bawled. Dad went nuts cheering! We are so proud!
I never saw my son grin as big as he did after the Secretary of State shook his hand and put the medal around his neck.
He was on the ABC local evening news, too!
In June Maxi will travel to Washington, DC, to compete in the national finals.
I am so happy for him I keep grinning and bawling and grinning again!!

Thank you, everyone, so very much! We are thrilled to pieces for the kid.
The national competition in Washington is June 13-17th, so a serious fund raising effort will be underway soon. His history teacher said the school has done bake sales & car washes in years past when several kids were attending nationals. But this year, Maxi is the only one attending from his school, so I'm not yet sure what the school will be willing to do.
Fortunately, the competition is held on campus at the University of Maryland and the students & parents can stay in the dorms which come with a package price including three meals a day. Or they can stay in local hotels and wing it.
Much to think about!

Not yet! My dialysis doc asked me that today also and when I told him what I was trying to do, he said he'd call his daughter who lives in the area where we are going. She'll be able to point things out to me! YAY!

Oh, so I'm glad it arrived for you, Carol!
This trip is going to be so complicated for us, I am determined to simplify as much as possible ahead of time. Thankfully, we have some weeks yet to sort it all out!

Sheri, there are difficulties involved w/ us staying in the dorms that we'd rather avoid, so we are looking for moderately priced lodgings close by.

When we travel we stay at cheap Motels.
Like Motel 6 and 8.
One time we lucked up . A motel , pricey one didnt have anymore cheap rooms, so they gave us a pricey room for the price of a cheap one.. Cool.
Even an Ironing boards.
