I never knew onions grew flowers, and after reading about ornamental onion (allium), I looked and found out most onions we find at stores to eat will actually produce flowers if left to grow. So, I was wondering, does anyone know which type of onions we grow to eat develop what color flowers? I am looking for pink, red, or purple flowers if possible. Please tell me the name of the onion so I can look for them, thanks.

I have only grown a couple of varieties of edible onions. The flowers on the types I have grown were white and not really very showy. I also have ornamental onions (alliums) that come in a rainbow of lovely colors and sizes.
I am not sure what colors are available in the edible varieties.

I've only seen white in the edibles also, but I do know that wild onion varieties have different colors. You might need to search through a medicinal plant/seed catalog.

I do have some winter onions that I can eat in the early spring. Other that that they are very bitter.
