Smokey Joe and his partner Sam showed up in my driveway about ten or twelve years ago...


Both of them were hurt, bloody, sick and very scared. I fed them and brought them saucers of milk every day, but it still took weeks before I ever got to pet either of them...


Gradually, our vet and I managed to nurse them back to health and they became a part of our Cedar Hill family...


All of my other critters accepted them as their new brothers....


My original 14 kitties have been gone for a long time now. Spot, the last of them passed away a few years ago at the age of 23.
Sam died from cancer a few years ago.


Most recently, Smokey has been a comfort to me while I got through my health problems. A year ago, Smokey developed his own health issues and had to take his meds twice a day and was doing OK.

Today, my bestest little Buddy, Smokey Joe went to sleep and left me to be with all of his Cedar Hill friends and my life suddenly became very, very empty.

I love you Smokey Joe. You were a very good friend to me.
I already miss you so, so bad!

Bill, words often are not enough--

Smokey Joe was a good sleeping buddy...he slept right by Bill's head every night.
...and when Bill fell asleep laid back in his computer chair Smokey was always on his lap.

He was my nappin' buddy...

I know how close you were with Smokey Joe, and I also know the pain of your loss. Please know that he had a terrific life, living there with you on Cedar Hill, and I thank you for that!

Ohhhhhhhh Bill I'm so sad for you and Shadow. Smokey was a good buddy to you Both. You are the Best for giving him a home and he lived a good life there on Cedar Hill.

I know a little poem.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.

There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.




Ghost pets sit with us!

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.



The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together....
