yes I know it was silly but..... it was sunny and warm so I thought my miniature fig tree would like some fresh air and sun so I put it out in a nice sunny sheltered spot in the garden then went out - and didn't come back that night. The frost that night was really really bad and my poor fig tree looks pretty dead. I'm wondering if there is any chance I can save it. The leaves are brown and dropping off but I think the roots are safe and I am wondering if I should just cut it right back and hope it makes it through to next year where it might get back to normal again, Can anyone help me? This tree means an awful lot to me

Well, not sure on the cutting it back(I've never owned a fig tree) but I can say that there is a good chance it'll come back. It might take at least 8 weeks to see new shoots or growth but I have had 'frost hit' plants that have made a full comeback Make sure and keep it in though, another frost might do it too much damage.

I'm not sure what type of fig you are talking about. Some are pretty hardy. But it sounds like you lost all of your leaves to this cold snap. So I would cut off all burnt, deadened leaves and any branch tips that might also be frost bitten. Then sit and wait to see what happens. Offer it plenty of light and water as you normally do. I hope you see new leaves growing within a short time and can begin to breath easier.
