So I put some sod down, and I really dug into the ground before I did because it was really bad soil on top. Anyway, I raked it and all, but it was hardly even. The sod has taken root now, but the ground below it has some rather large holes from my poor job. What can I do to the ground in its current state to fix it? And what can I do in the future when I lay sod down, just lightly rake the top?

Hi and welcome back wavy

You can buy some top soil and rake it over the uneven dips and holes...the grass will grow up through it to even out.

To lay flat sod, you need a flat base. It's alot of work raking ground even but in the end. you won't be sorry. Next time it might be better to lay out some top soil to fill the holes before you lay the sod thumbup

I have one of those metal rakes with a bunch of hard teeth. Is that the proper raking tool for this, or am I missing a common gardening tool?

Nope, the old fashioned rake works best. Not the ones for leaves..
