hOW COME MY DESERT roses ARE SO TINY?
i GREW THEM FROM seeds AN THINK THEY HAVE KNOMEITIS..

HELP.
AFTER 3 YEARS , I NEED SOMETHING.

Those are not stunted at all, Dodge. They are very, very happy adeniums. Those are pretty slow growing desert plants and you've done a spectacular job with them. You will see the base of the stems get fatter and fatter forming a caudex and you will have to transplant them to separate pots. They should continue to grow but still slowly.

Yes, they look fine. Starting plants from seeds can take a while since you start from scratch. Maybe they could get more sunlight.

I have a issue with my desert rose. It doesn't flower. I water it 3 times a month and it has intense direct sunlight for atleast 4 hours a day. Why isn't it flowering?

Is that a houseplant? I don't remember seeing them before.

Warm places grow them outside.

Someone sent me seeds.. About 3 or 4 years ago.LOL

OMG Tina...that is beautiful.

That is not mine. It is a picture of a typical one I found online. They are pretty. And with the caudex, that big bulbous stem, they are an awesome looking weird plant all of the time. They do tend to lose their leaves in the winter months and need to be kept at temps of 55* and above all of the time.

Dodge is right they are stunted.

These plants need sunlight and warmth and a good fertilizer to grow well. Mine that are 6 months old from seed are now 3 inches tall. I have some 2 month old ones that are about 2 inches tall.

Dodge(bali)it would be good to seperate them into their own pots and start fertilizing them and give them as much sun as you can, they are sun loving plants..but give them shade in the times of extreme heat.

They are slow growers yes but they are not that slow..LOL At 3-4 year you should have a nice full plant depending on how you trim. If you want it to branch cut those plants about half way down and in about a week you will have several new branches start forming. I took a 6 month old 2.5 inch seedling and cut the top off and it has 2 more branches right now. Cutting it will also help the caudex to fatten up..but they do need their own pots.

I use a mix of miracle grow and perilite for my seedlings after I move them from seed trays to their own pots. I make my mix so that it drains well but will still hold some water. I found that my seedlings dry to fast and start to get a soft caudex if the mix is draining to fast. They should have a nice firm caudex and trunk/branches.

This has just been my experince.

Tina is right they grow very very slowly,, be patient and you'll be rewarded beautiful blooms..
I keep mine inside in the winter and now it's outside and stays outside all spring summer and fall until I just HAVE to bring it in ,, when the temps reach 50 or below at night and stay there I bring it in.
I use cactus soil mixed with rich earthy composted Potting soil.

Last summer I planted patunia's at the base of it,, you can't tell By the picture of I don't have the patunia's close to the base, there is plenty of room between them.

When I bring it in sometimes it loses it's leaves this past winter it did and is getting them back now that I've taken it back outside

That is a very pretty adenium!

They will loose their leave naturally in the winter months and go into a time of dormancy were they should be given much less water. The caudex will shrink some but this is fine. Then in the spring when they get some more water they will chub out again and start to leaf out...that is when I am told is best to start to fertilize them.

The size of your plant can be achieved in a 5 year period if proper conditions given...so I am told by the experts. I would love to see a picture of the caudex if you can.

I'm gonna try see if I can find that plant here..surely a nursery could find it.

the Picture above is the same one,, it healed it self and has done quite well

no work of art, but I moved the Desert roses into larger quarters.
When they get larger I will get them new quarters.

I have to get new pots as they grow.
I put them in full sun.. They all 3 had nice root systems.
I had 6 more of them, but traded them off.
Lets look for the best..

Dodge here is the Desert rose that was split in the middle 2 years ago,, most people in southern states grow them outside, and bring in for the winter,, As well as a lot of people in northern states take out in the late spring and keep outside until very early fall, it helps them grow with natural sun light, and rain,, Not sure how it was defined as a house plant Because it definatly Loves to be outside when weather permits, When nights fall below 50 time to take in :wink:
