hello i am in NJ i believe zone 7. i did decent in this location for the first time last season with tomatos, and some assorted hot peppers, i failed with broccoli, eggplant, cucumbers.
i believe my failure was due to poor soil. this year i have amended the soil with tons of great compost and whatnot. and would like some advice on how to properly plant this spot. i have taken some pics and drew a layout for referance.
i have so far ready to be planted
curled parsley 1
common sage 1
rosemary 1
german thyme 1
burpee bibb lettuce 1
jalapenos jumbo variety 3
big mama hybrid tomato 2
sweet italian large leaf basil 2
oregano 1
yellow cherry hybrid tomato 2
cilantro
mint either spearmint or peppermint not sure 1

here are the links to the pics

any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
my plans are salsa and salads. i also have canning and pickling supplies so i am not opposed to other stuff i love all veggies, all ideas are welcome.
thanks
Rory

looks like you've got a lot of shade. Wonder if that was the problem with the cukes. Also the tree may take up a lot of the nutrients and water so you might have to water a lot.

Mint is invasive. I plant mine in pots.

i have full afternoon sun and filterd sun all day.. the cukes grew orange on that trellis the plants looked great but they were heavy bodied and orange. i will put the mint in pots. was thinking to do the lettuce and herbs in the left side, and tomato and peppers in the other side with strawberries around the tree. does this sound good? i hear some herbs are not good together how far apart do they have to be?
