Hello. I'm really new to gardening, and I have a lot of questions. My father and I are experimenting this year, since the last time we grew things was in Illinois. The weather there is almost perfect for anything! However, now we are in Texas, and the soil is pretty poor in our area. There is a lot of sun and little rain. I've managed to keep some starter plants alive (parsley, lemon thyme, and russian oregano just barely), and have even grown basil from
seed. Also from
seed we've tried two or three kinds of tomatoes,
peppers, and mint (it almost lived!). However, they do try to grow, and then just turn brown and die. I think they're getting too much sun and water, as dad waters them until the pots over flow, and has left them in the sun for about eight to ten hours.
I'm also trying strawberries from
seed, which I obtained from the berries themselves. However, I'm not sure I did that correctly. I removed most of the fruit, let it mold, and then placed them in a pot- covered. Now it looks like I'm
growing some kind of mushroom! Is that normal?
Haha, I hope I don't ask too many questions! I really want to grow things, it just seems harder than I expected.
