I have no idea what these are but every year we have hundreds pop up growing in the same spot, and this year I found a variegated one aswell. I dont know if they are from seeds of plants we have around our house outside. We have lily of the valley,hosta, various lilys.

Any ideas?

Ok, if you dont know the exact species, can you at least say if it is a weed or flower?

That second one looks like a type of dracaena to me. I used to have a plant that looked very much like that. Can't remember the exact name though.

The 2 pictures are of the same type of plant, they are supposed to be pure green, but I found 1 in the bunch that was variegated.

Hmmm, I don't know then. Sorry, I'm sure a better expert than me will be along shortly to help. My plant knowledge is somewhat limited.

But those are indoor plants? Its impossible for them to grow outdoors, let alone set seed.

No, dracaena will grow outdoors here quite well. And they put out babies from the base.
I agree with you those are not dracaena. But I am sorry, I cannot help you with what they could actually be.

The mystery plants have started to flower, so far only 1 small flower per plant, but as they get taller a flower buds between the stalk and the leaf.

That's a Commelina Erecta..I think it's called that anyway..also known as white-mouth Dayflower.

That's it! It's considered a weed but some use it for flowers or animal feed actually. They say it's very variable in flower color, but the variegated form I found is rare.

I have some of that too - I actually dug up some plants at the art center in the county because I liked the blue blooms. It took readily and now it is popping up all over that garden bed. I don't mind - it pulls out easily.

I also consider it a weed......
but then I did bring some with me from the farm---ah well---

mine rarely blooms. The good thing about it is that it is easy to pull out. :wink:

OK I looked this morning and unless there is different varieties as the comment I have in blue * indicates, that is not what I have. The leaf design is different. The White-mouthed Dayflower leaves puts me in the mind more of say a bachelors button or a type of Dianthus, than the design of my plant?? Mine looks like Keith's picture of June 3rd

Mine are more a creeping plant. I have two types of leaves on different plants. Some as pictured in your link and some are shorter, rounder. But the flowers are identical and I wish they grew larger.

My variegated form has multiplied x 5 and has gotten lots of blue flowers, mabye there will be more variegated plants?

Maybe Common or Asiatic Dayflower: Commelina communis ???

Mine are the shorter rounder as well---so I am assuming it is just the variety I have, huh??

I have that in my yard and don't like it. It will take over if you're not careful and be everywhere. It's horrible here.
