I cant get the darn things to grow!!

I am reseeding for the third time. First time I just planted the seed not one came up. Second time I germinated the seeds and then planted only three came up(all the peas I did this with worked).

Any tips before I strike out??

Beans need warm weather, lots of sun and well drained soil to grow..

Did your seeds all come from the same package or lot? Maybe you could try a different kind or brand?

Also, dig down and check, sometimes the seeds rot in the ground..or you'll see they are cut off at the base..common cause~grubs.

You could also mix some good soil in with the row to help if you have a lot of clay....don't give up.

I just checked its been 7 days since I planted germinated seeds. I think they should be breaking ground by now?? I will dig one up and see whats going on - rotted etc. Nope 2 different brands and three of them are up and growing nicely. Good idea to try to alter the soil for the beans.

Yup, this way you can just add a $1 bag of soil into the row instead of spending a fortune, adding to the whole garden.

I sometimes do that with a bag of 'seafood compost', it's $8 a bag so I just mix in a handful here and there with the plants and seeds.

That's what I did this yr ,prep your area ,added some top soil and then seeded and backfill with topsoil.
For my beans I trenched it deeper then seed recommends and added topsoil to get the seed depth, then filled with topsoil and lightly hand brush some of the org dirt over the top to lock the top soil from any erosion.

My grandparent used to plant four sets of beans, all a week apart. She said it made it easier at canning time.
