2 years ago these roses were Gurneys blue .. More like purple.

Today they bloomed. Abeatiful deep red. Nicer than the photo shows.

but doesnt that have to do with the soil??

You have to feed them acid .. I use vinegar in water.
Last year I thought it was dead, only one leaf grew.
This year it came back as red.. yes they need acid soil.

I am wondering if your rose was grafted? If the upper graft died then what you have left is the hardy rootstock used and it has red roses. They are beautiful though.

...that explains a neighbors plum tree, two kinds of plums mixed together..she left it grow like a shrub from all the suckers that rooted from the base. So the tree that was grafted grows one and the suckers from the rootstock must grow another you learn something new everyday.

Yep, that would be the reason. My grafted apricot tree died off. But the base keeps suckering. Maybe I should let one grow to see what I get. Often the fruit from rootstock is not as nice as the graft though. So I have kept cutting them.

It's a pretty rose whatever happened. I think I told you the story about my red asiatic lillies that used to be planted on the front hill. When DOT came through and took down the hill I took the rhizomes and put them in a pot. They bloomed yellow this year. Splain that Lucy.

Ya well my red astilbes bloomed pink, pink daffodils bloomed yellow, and my pink daylillies bloomed orange last year.....I give up trying to understand Mother Nature...
