Hi!
I'm trying to become more of a green thumb, and would love to add some flowers inside my apartment. I live in the North East and I get morning sun. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks so much in advance wavy

Kalanchoe die after a while. Here is a list of nice floweing plants

-Azalée;
-Streptocarpus;
-Piece lilly;
-Abutilion;
-Hibiscus
-Africain violet;
-Primula;
-And many more.

Just check out your local green house or a hardaware store.(i.e.: Lowes, Rona, Home Depot...)Ask them for what you want. Tell them in what area you are in.(sun, no sun,shade,east,south...)

That is rather weird. In my book it tells me to trash the plant once it finished flowering. But, I didn't, I let it grow bu and trunk was doing something weird and was soggy and brown. So ,I trashed it.

The tag on a Kalanchoe given to me as a gift advised me to throw mine away after the flowers died but it just keeps on flowering. I have been able to use cuttings to pot clones and give those as gifts.

I kept mine inside at first, but it started getting moldy on the soil, so I moved it outdoors. Maybe that is the difference. I am going to experiment and keep some inside to see the difference.

Indoor flowers that have worked for me by my bedroom window which gets morning sun:

Morning glories (its a vine, makes an awesome "curtain" for your window.) It does take a couple of months to flower inside.

Nasturitium (a bushy like vine, very bright flowers)

Double-blossomed Balsam (Looks a little like roses)

But my all time favorite indoor morning window flowers are daisy-like flowers. There are many varieties. Keep them by the morning lit window in a pretty pot, and when you have guests over you can place the pot in a place of honor on the dining room table. People are always impressed :)

I think if you try what you like and are not afraid of accidentally killing a few plants, you'll have fun experimenting.

Debbie

That is so strange I'm wondering if it's the variation of kalonchoe you have,, I don't know of any plant to throw away after blooming,, I've always just cut off the dead bloom. I have it outside in the spring summer and fall, In the winter it's in the garage, and During the winter I water it very little, as soon as night temps are @ 50 and above consistently I take it back out side, No problem thumbup

African violets! So pretty, and my grandmother grew them, so they always remind me of her. Actually, maybe now that I've read the care of houseplants thread, I'll try my hand at one! Thanks :)
