well let me tell you all what I am doing right. grin
When we moved here, I was so upset to leave my "yard" that I could not sleep well.
so one day I went out, dug out an area between my house & the rocked area that I was going to have, where I intended to put flowers.
Thne my DH & I went back to the farm (his cousin owns the land that was next to us, so really we went back to his land) and we brought back (15-20) 5 gallon buckets full of my GOOD farm soil.
but now I have to try to keep everyting fertilized to keep it in top shape.

oh and the small flower bed in the front has the good farm soil too. grin

Tina, Tamara, Lynne & Sheri: Thanks so much !!!!!

The only reason my plants even grow half decent with our cr@ppy weather is because of good farm soil..

Diane - the one on the right side of the pond was a seedling this year from the plant from last year. The mother plant is very very small this year. I think the one on the left is most likely a seedling too that was in the same spot as that mother plant.

My biggest disappointment is that over 2 years not a single one of my Oranges and Lemons returned or seeded, and I had MANY of those plants the past 2 summers. Not going to buy another one - ever! Too expensive for them not to return - they are supposed to be perennials here! tapfoot

I can save some seeds Tina. They have tons of seeds. I'm surprised it grows in your area because it doesn't love the dry heat here.

I think your second picture is gazania, Carol. Both are lovely.
The perilla will do well here with a lot of watering, Sheri. But I do a lot of watering.

Gazanias are a constant thing here. I sometimes weed them out of where they are not welcome. We have several plants that are almost constantly in bloom like gazanias; geraniums, lantana, oleander, sweet allysum. But because they are there consistently there, I tend not to notice the colors that they bring. They are like wallpaper. But wallpaper with a scent. I love the smell of some of them surrounding me. .

Carol - I love gazaznias - they are so bright and cheerful! I usually plant the yellows and oranges. Since I am on a tighter budget this year, I didn't get any because the animals also think they are great, and will either eat or just clip the flowers off!!!
