This is my new project under way. I had to remove all the old cedar rails that bordered the front of my lawn. So I took the ones that were good and decided to make a decorative fence instead.

I bought this climbing rose

..and planted against it here

This fence sits between my Fir tree and my boulder/rock garden

Now to figure out what else I can add to it over time grin

Ideas anyone?

well first to jump to mind is a Clematis that would be a color that would be complementary to your rose.
It should go on another post of the decorative fence.

Then you could also put in some tame raspberries or blackberries along the rest of the fence.
(The tame are not as sweet as the wild but hey they are easier to pick)...

very nice looking yard, BTW.

(I would pick the yard over a house any day of the week, so that complement does not come lightly.)

That is just beautiful! Will you be incorporating it into/surrounding it by a mulched bed? If so, the possibilities are endless! I can see an irregularly shaped bed where the fence is at one end, and a dwarf tree of interest is at the other-- perpendicular to the line between the fir & the boulder.

Lovely work!

Carol, interesting you should mention clematis! When I was researching about those special climbing roses for Tam several days ago (before she bought this one), it recommended planting a clematis alongside and Marica, adding an evergreen to the picture!

I forget now if this is the very windy side of your yard where so many trees have died, Tam?

We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart?
The other heart was given to another for us to find.

Carol..Thank you. I do have a clematis that must be moved next spring.

Marica..I need to be able to pass with a tractor between the fir tree and the fence, thanks also.

........yup Merme, this is the area where the wind knocked down an apple tree...and the snow destroyed 15 currant bushes. It's a bad area.

I do have an evergreen that could be moved also..

This is so much fun clap
