Ok I bought the property in June of 2008. Whatever looks like lawn is actually weeds. Most of the 1.42 acres is covered in trees and brush. Just one of the reasons I call this post the 10 year plan. I want to thin out what is there and then add trees of different varieties and then underneath the canopy I want to create a meandering shade garden. As usual I've bitten off more than I can chew lol. But I must say I'm loving it.

Well I wanted to share before and after pictures but the computer isn't paying attention to me. I'll have to try to get the before pictures later.

Lets see what I have that is semi-recent.


This is the first of three peruvian Daffodils (they are really lilies) to bloom this year. They are in my far left foundation bed as your looking at the house.


I am really excited by my plum tree. This is its 1st year at my place and I'm guestimating it is about 4 years old. It's a semi-dwarf that I hope to keep about 10 to 15 feet tall.


Here are the 4 plants that I was left with from 17 seeds. I didn't do very well from seed this year. But they are exuberant plants for all of that. They aren't the 6 inch tall plants they were suppose to be so I suppose some pollenanting got done that no one expected lol. But I love them none the less.

I'm working on it. My computer has a virus and it fights me every step of the way.


Here is the first rose in my garden. It is a royal red miniature that is suppose to max out at about 16 inches. Right now it is under 6 inches but it is just busy making flowers. The color is really a very, very red. I think you can see it in the spring hill catalog.


Here is where I prove that I need a supervisor when planting a garden. Somehow I planted the ditch lilies right over the top of this backward facing gladiolus. I've got some thinning to do here either this fall or next spring.


Please excuse the camera strap I need wild willy to teach me camera taking techniques. I've loved these every since I saw megs blue garden years ago. So when I got a chance I picked up two of them. I hope to harvest seeds and have a nice little clump of them next year.

Celosia and Cockscomb are some of my favorite annuals and here is one clump I have in the sidewalk bed.


I think this clump has gotten so big the the size of the blooms are suffering. So I'm going to cut most of the seed pods off and kind of let the plant rest and then divide it so next year it has a better chance of producing better flowers.


This hosta is doing the best of the three that I brought from the old place. It is the one that is placed in the shade in the tree bed.

This year I just happened to find a gallon container or Tropicanna's. The color is alittle bland but I think that might be because they were sunburned. These were on my must have list and I'm really thrilled to have them. I have them down hill of the water faucet since I know that they don't mind getting extra water. I have chocolate mint in the same area along with the double bloom impatiens you can see in the picture.


This Cetronella plant I found at our annual Uncle Billy's Day celebration. It's doing great in the sidewalk bed.


These globe amaranthus are just as cute as a button and I hope to have a nice clump of them next year.

I know looking at individual plants doesn't tell you much about the property. I'll work on getting some landscape shots. Not something that I do well, but I'll try.

So far I have 3 foundation beds, two sidewalk beds, one tree bed, one driveway bed and then the fruit trees, the ditch bed and the blueberry bed. It's just about more than I can care for but I can't seem to stop myself.

BTW--I am particularily taken with the peruvian Daffodils they are just so "differnt" than what I expected.

Ok here are some before pictures. I'm sorry that they aren't better. I'm just not all that good behind a camera.


I haven't figured out a way to get a good picture of my 229 feet of frontage. Here is a picture of it all that lovely brush and trees are mine. I hope to clear out the brush. Select cut the trees so I have the widest variety of health trees and then add nut and blooming trees to fill it in.



This is a pile of old wood that is right on the edge of my property. I'm not sure if it belongs to my neighbor or me and since he doesn't live at his place I can't ask him.


And here is a party area on the property at least it was before I moved in. Would you believe two years and I still haven't gotten to cleaning up that area yet?

Tammy, I like that you've planted a few things on top of the others. Lots of work for you I know but it gives the yard character. You've done a lot of work and things are looking great.

I am going to take you up on the blackberry lily seeds. i did have a peruvian daff once, an rain killed it quick. Is yours perennial?

I have Crepe Myrtle plants up for grabs, I started an they arent hardy in my area.
And
just picked white Columbines, grow almost 3 ft tall this year.
And more.

What color are your crape mytle? I've got my eye on the red ones around here waiting for them to start making seed pods. I'm such a seed vulture.
