I have some Gaillardia Fanfare that bloomed for WEEKS on end and looked absolutely stunning. They are on their second blooms and the plants look pale and the flowers don't open properly. Any thoughts? Many thanks.

Wecome zone. Did you dead head the spent flowers? Have you fed them at all. Are they in excessive high temps?

Thank you Tina! Yes, I did deadhead the spent flowers very diligently. I gave them a little dry roots initially. They have been in excessive high temps as of late (it's been gross here in the NY area) but the problems started before the excessive temps.

I would look for several other things as well, then. Is it in the ground or a pot? Is it root bound wherever it is planted? If the roots cannot spread out to drink properly, it can cause such issues as you are having. I am thinking. Because this is the season they should flourish.

Not rootbound...planted in the ground....about six of them. They were amazing for WEEKS. Second bloom is stunted and leaves are pale. They were planted in humus loam over good New England subsoil...well drained. Trying to upload a pic but can't seem to figure that out either! Many thanks for your thoughts Tina. ![[Linked Image]](http://i938.photobucket.com/albums/ad221/zubulu/th_IMG_gaillardia.jpg)

Ok, then I would look and watch. Maybe something else is happening underground to interfere with normal growth. I have no answers for you.
