These plants grow a lot in my neighbor's side yard, and since there's nothing dividing our lawns, they've crept over to our side over the years. I think they are very pretty, but have no idea what they are - some kind of violet? Don says they will be mowed down next time he cuts the grass - PHOOEY!!!

Ground Ivy!!!!

Some despise it...

I like it.. thumbup
*I have light fluffy dirt and it
pulls out easily and keeps other
deep tap rooted weeds at bay..
*not much room to germinate when
the ivy is trialinng all over the place..*

that's creeping charlie and it is VERY invasive and VERY difficult to get rid of.

yes, it's easy to pull up...thing is, any bit of root left will continue to grow. they also root from any piece of leaf or vine bit, too (so, if you pull it up and a leaf falls off, it'll root).

Well... you are both right - thanks! Different names for the same plant! So far, it's not invasive on our side - it's mostly underneath a large pine tree, and I really don't mind it there - the flowers are sweet!

That's soooo pretty. Maybe I should plant that near my neighbors yard? He doesn't grow grass, just stickers and they're always coming into my yard!

She's very right, it is invasive..
but for us here, it's in our lawn..
and I am not a lawn person so, if it's there.. it's there.

but controling it is very difficult..

I just happen to love the flowers..

But for someone who wants' straight grass
it's a nemisis!!

Lynne, if you don't mind it, grab some...
put it in a pot/container and let it hang
over hte end.... it's a great hanging plant.
*keep on the moist side*

Jiffy - my neighbor actually has both!
I can see the white ones blooming from my bedroom window because they are so bright - can't see the purple ones though.

Weezie and sibyl - I've tried potting them up before, but they just died! I'll definitely try again - will go out in a bit and get some!

The thing is... they only bloom now for a very short time...
do you find otherwise? Is there a way I can keep them blooming? I'm not sure it's worth the trouble potting them up just for the foliage.

]

I thru them in regular garden soil and compost mixture..

And nope, they only bloom in these weeks here,
and maybe sporatic if you clip them to encourage them to
grow/bloom a bit more..

but after they're done bloomin..
just throw them in the back of a shed, where
rain can get at them.. and leave'em alone
'til next spring..
They are pretty "hardy" fellows' and can with stand it..
*and if they do demise, no biggie really, go pull out
some more out of the yard..

they sometimes rebloom later on.

yes, the flowers are pretty!

i let some grow under the dogwood because it's so easy to pull up and i want to clear that area for a raised bed (and it will overtake the grass).

BIG mistake!! now it's ALL through the yard. if i'd known then what i know now, i'd have pulled it all up!
