yea I know---but I like to garden too. my grandfather had most of his yard i n grden (but then he had 12 kids to feed). Then my dad had a very large garden at our house. Mom would can a lot. she still does some but not like when hwe were home. I had a nice sized garden at the farm. I planted enough potatoes to get us thru until january most years. The only thing I put up in jars was jelly. otherwise I froze what others would can. As an example I would take a 15 oz can of tomatoes wash out the can & squish it full of tomatoes so I would have a premeasured amount in each container & put up my things that way. I had a seal a-meal & would put up my corn with that. yep I like a garden. It is good for the soul & good for the body.

You should of waited till retirement to sell the farm. An move to town. I been on the farm allmy life. Only 9 months in town when we married, then we found a farm quick to get back on.
My brother sold the homestead farm, an regrets it terribly today. His wife wanted to be by her mommy.......
Oh well.

I know I have said before. But my DH thought he was not a well man & he did not want me to be left all alone on the farm and he had a job where he worked 60 hours a week, mandatory. So we sold it.---and thankfully we found out that he was not sick after all--and then the place he was at closed down & moved down south. But I guess things happen for a reason....just wish I knew what that reason was....

yes I do just that most of the time, Barb. My youngest says when she wins the lottery (they do not play the lottery) she is going to "buy back her home".

Gardening is a lot of work but I love it. I don't know why I have to plant stuff but I do. Juniegirl, you just have to make the best of where you live. Bloom where you're planted.

no dont feel guilty Dodge--be happy for the both of us.
The girls were shocked when he sold the farm.---they said we had talked about it for so long (2 years) that they figured that is all we would ever do--just talk about it.
The oldest is dating a guy that intends to move back to his family farm one day--so she may well become a farmer's wife. The little one is likley to end up on one of those 2 acre homes out on the edge of town. her DH wants to build one day.

I know Illinois is a lovely flatter farm country than Pennsylvania. We went thru it probably 16 or 18 times. When we were going out west , back an forth. Illinois , Ohio, Iowa were very good farm countrys. Hd had a mad passion for Iowa.
I said great to visit but not to live. I happen to like our Forests an hills here. Makes for pretty scenery too.

I have only been thru pennsylvania a few times & never really stopped. I do love nice scenery though. perhaps some day. I guess we all just as well be happy where we are---it will work out best for us that way. But yes I am sure that Penna is very much more Scenic that the flat lands around here. well good night

North Carolina is a good place. Flat and hills, beach and dry land, mountains with skiing and snow at my house every once in a while.
I've never been to PA or IL. Maybe I can visit you guys.

There is a lot of farming. In my county there is a lot of poultry raising. Any in SC, which is 16 miles the other way from me they grow a lot of watermelons. They have a watermelon festival and everything.

ah!! so tell me Dodge---There are 2 reasons that come to mind for planting that many sunflowerss. 1) to commercially sell them. 2) to entice the Doves to come and land to eat them. I must admit--such a nice lot of sunflowers....

I will top that if I can get to Marshville and get a picture. My friend's family plants and harvests and sells the seeds. They have, I don't know how many acres on 2 sides of a road and it's beautiful. I posted a picture on here several years ago. One thing that amazes me about the fields is that there are no weeds in the fields. No grass, nothing but dirt and the plants. It's gorgeous.

Wonder if they'll let you cut some to take home. When Johnny's daughter, Amy, got married, we were able to cut a bunch for her wedding tables. They were gorgeous.

Hey mean dodge. How long do your sunflower stalks look pretty and healthy. Mine are starting to wilt up a bit and I thought they were through but yesterday a few more flowers sprouted out. The foliage looks pitiful though.

My tallest was 10 feet 11 inches but it's drooping now. It has put out some new flowers and the flowers look good but they're drooping too. Dodge's boyfriend, Mr. Cardinal, was hanging out on them the other day.
