Yesterday I came across a delicate wild wildflower. By that I mean it just happened in a most unusual place, not planted by humans. :wink:

Can anyone identify this wildflower?



Later that day, I heard the gardeners next door and thought, well, I wanted to capture it and take it to my established garden. After the gardeners left, I looked out to find they missed it. I hurriedly dug it up, potted up and today it looks like this.



I hope it makes it. Looks like shamrock family? What do you think?

looks like a type of oxalis, so you're right, a shamrock of some sort

I have these coming up all over my yard like wildflowers. I also have ones that the flowers are yellow. I always thought they were some type of wild clover. Or is oxalis a type of clover?

I just saw your location! I am in Bogalusa, not too far from you. I remember these growing at my grandmother's in South Mississippi. I think they are pretty common in this area.

if they are oxalis they will come back. and if anyone want's to send me some of either varity ;) i'd love some, but wait till i get postage together, i don't do trades very well.

I potted up some bulbs I bought about 1 1/2 months ago - the leaf stems got soooooooooooo high that they started falling over - I potted it up into a slightly larger pot, and tied the leaves around. A much LONGER flower spike grew up, and had just opened its first flower, when Salem (black cat) decided that it would make a tasty treat! Anyone know if these plants are toxic???

Okay folks. Since I now know this wildflower is an oxalis, (thanks ya'll :wink:) after a little research, I determined it is oxalis corymbosa (lavender sorrel) for anyone who is interested. I think I saw the yellow version next door. Will look tomorrow. Should I have re-planted in my garden or potted up like I did?

sounds great! i have oxalis in a pot, and in the yard, mine in the pots does better than the ones in the yard, but my yard is miserable...
