wavy Hi Merme! To answer your question about the girls, they don't start school until this coming Wednesday. I'm sure their reading material won't be quite as advanced as what Maxi has. The girls are in public school and while they are smart they aren't exceptional and not in any sort of honors or advanced classes. Their schedule is like this.

Band (concert/marching)
Intro to lit & comp
Alegebra 1
French2
Intergrated science
World history

They are also on the swim team which goes until November I believe.

Our weather has cooled off today, now I wish I would have run today instead of yesterday. Oh well, today is my laundry/lazy day. Still debating whether or not I'm going to work tomorrow. It would be extra money, which would help but at the same time 3 day weekends are awfully tempting. Well, off to switch out laundry loads and eat some breakfast. Be back in a bit!

Oh I dunno, Cheryl, those five classes the girls are taking seem like a hefty enough work load to me! Add in band (which meets daily?) and swim team, I think anyone would have a full plate. Maxi is also in concert choir (which meets daily) but I didn't list it because he didn't get a book for it! lol

We're still debating about his language. The school would like him to continue with French as he's already had it for 7 years. (French is Maine's other official language as our legislature is conducted bilingually). I would rather he switch to Latin. We'll see.

He only gets one study hall per week because the school has a tutoring program the students take on the other four days. When you arrive at the tutoring, you tell the teacher which subject/s is giving you fits and then that is the focus for you during that period. You may not do homework during this time; it is extra help geared toward a subject.

I've never packed lunches for him before now but at the price this school charges, he is going to be taking a lunch bucket most days. It is $5 a day there! yikes So I bought him a nice lunch pail gizmo and a couple of neat cold and hot containers for traveling foods. Since he won't eat anything with mayo, I have a feeling he'll be carrying a lot of peanut butter! I put some $$ on his student account in case we get in a pinch for something to pack or if he wants something to go with, but he's been told he's not buying every day.

$5 a day for school lunch yikes man how things have changed. My kids lunch in the 60's was $2.00 a week. When I was in school ours was .25c a day. In the late 40's and 50's.

Band meets daily and is one of their classes. They also have some extra after school band practices plus swimming is daily as well. There are a few times where swimming and band interfere but the girls have already figured out which one wins out on a particular day. They took french for two years in middle school and you have to have two years of foreign language in high school to graduate so they wanted to continue with french. They hope to go to france one day. Luckily for us, since Aros hadn't been working and the kids attend public school, the kids were able to get in on the free lunch program.

I've only got one load of laundry left to dry, I cleaned my bedroom and scrubbed the tub today as well. Had a relaxing and productive day.

Good night all. I am happy because our heatwave is supposed to break tonight and be much better tomorrow. I may be able to get some things done outdoors.

I thought I posted in here earlier today. I must be losing it. touched Had a pretty relaxing day, went for a run and had some tummy trouble but I seem to be fine now. The kids start school on Wednesday, they're all looking forward to it and they're all starting new schools this year. The girls have planned a belated birthday party for themselves tomorrow. They and their friends are going to get manicures/pedicures and then they're walking to a nearby park for donuts and hanging out. They planned it all out themselves without any help from us and they are even getting a discount on their nails since it's a birthday thing. Tomorrow I go back to work but it will be a nice quiet day at work since all the managers and administrators will be gone, it'll feel like a Sunday.

Maxi's big day is tomorrow. First day of classes.

Originally we were told to buy a 1 inch binder and matching folder in a different color for each class. So we did that. Fortunately, staples has binders & folders in a ton of colors! So once he got his binders, he decided which color went for which class.

Then he got his class schedule. He was told to color in his schedule to match his binders. In that way, he can tell at a glance where he needs to go. So he did that.

Then he got his books. He was told to cover his books in matching colors to his binders.

Now I get it!

When he is in a hurry and grabbing stuff & looking for math gear, he'll just have to grab everything green. It will also prevent him from glancing down & THINKING he has a certain book but mistaking it.

Pretty clever!

He picked Red, his favorite color, for History, his favorite subject. Yellow for science. Purple for theology. Blue for English. Green for math. Black or orange will be for language when he starts that.

I didn't feel like shopping for book covers so I bought a big roll of freezer paper. I will flip it so the waxy side is inside & hand him markers to do designs of the right colors on each. He loves to draw intricate designs.

Good morning! The rain is back today but I don't mind. It fits with my mood. I don't much like Labor Day because to me it signifies the end of summer. Fall and winter are not my happy months. I'm trying to be proactive this year though and hopefully I'll manage better. We'll just have to wait and see. I'm currently procrastinating doing work but soon I'll have to get to it. Hope everyone has a good day.

That is a good attitude, Cheryl. Maybe some full spectrum lights in your house as well? I have some to put up in my fixtures. I never did put any up last year. I meant to but didn't need to replace any bulbs.

Glad you got to have a nice relaxing day, Tina. You deserve it.

We went out for tacos for dinner, then drove to a friend of the girls house to pick up Mandy's phone that she forgot. Then we went to the store to pick up a few needed items. Tomorrow is the kids last day of summer vacation. I have to work so it's off to bed for me now. Good night, sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite.

Good morning! Hope my day goes well, I left my cup of coffee on the kitchen counter and barely drank any of it. If worse comes to worse I'll have some work coffee. It's not as good but it'll get the job done.

Your morning sounds a bit like mine. I remembered my coffee but my van overheated on the way to taking Ted to school. The good part of that is it was about a quarter mile from my mechanic. I need a new water pump and it should be good to go this afternoon. Ted was a little late for school and Jonni was a little late to work but we are well. So I am good with that.

I woke up about two hours ago. I was bored, so I went outside. I am preparing the garden for fall and winter. The soil is dry, so I watered it. Now I am waiting for the soil to absorb the water and become more workable. When i wa clearing the bed of dead grass and pea plants, A field mouse came scurrying out and hid in a pile of dead grass. I guess it was living off the peas. I have a lot of work left to do in the garden.

I graduated from high school in June. I was going to go to college, but I couldn't because of the recession. I am looking for work. Most of my friends are at college in San Francisco, Los Angeles, or out of state because there are no good jobs in town. The only work available here is a low paying job at a fast food joint or fieldwork.

Enrique, sorry that I missed you.

I so hope that things all work out for you.

The economy has affected a very large number of us, unfortunately.

I will say good night to everyone. snooz

Good morning. I remembered my coffee today. I dropped Joey off for his first day of middle school. He was actually very excited. Ashleys already negative about the school year. Hope she has a better experience this year. She should since most of her negative influences are at different schools. The girls go to band camp on Friday. More new friends to make. Joeys taking the school bus home this year. He's never been on a school bus before. Today is only for 6th graders, which I think is smart. I dropped him off early because they were having a special breakfast thing for the first day. Can't wait to get home and find out how everyones first day went. Well, time to work.
