I love lupines, but they tend to be annuals here because of our hot, humid summers. I have to plant them in the fall so they will bloom in spring...then they usually die from the heat in summer. Most nurseries only ship potted lupines in the spring, and they don't have time to bloom for me. I found 2 places that ship them in the fall...one I have ordered from before and been very happy, but I decided to try the other, a nursery called New Garden Plants. They are expensive to say the least, and I assumed (ugh!) that because they were charging so much (the sale price was $10 each!) that the plants would be big and healthy. WRONG! I received what looked to me to be left over clearance plants that my local nursery would sell for $2 each. I decided to keep them and plant them anyway, rather than going to all the trouble of sending them back, etc. I did email them and let them know I was very disappointed, and they didn't even write me back. I have been burned before my mail order nurseries, and I guess I'll just chalk it up as burned once more. But be warned...

It is sad that some companies are unwilling to do a good job. Thanks from me also on the heads up.

So sorry...strange how our climates differ. Lupines are starting to be a nuisance here...spreading like wild fire in farmers fields and apparently are poisonous to livestock.

thanks about ther lupine info. I bought a lupine 2 differnt times---neither ever bloomed---I am happy to know why now--- I h ave been burned also--actually be Bluestone perenials & by Michigan bulb. MB sent me waht was billed as a 3 in 1 butterfly bush--I should have known better---it was 3 seperate starts of 3 butterfly bushes Ok that was n=me being ignorant--BUT each "plant" was like 3 inches tall & of course died with in the first week. About Bluestone: For the price I got very small plants as well--- I must say though, what I do like about mail-order is the selection that i s available

I will say that most of the other mail order companies I have had problems with were willing to try to make me happy by giving a refund or a credit, or at least acknowledging the fact that I was not happy. But this place seems not to care, hence no response at all.

Thanks Alan-- While I would rather see what I am buying (via a nursery) I really like the selection a mail order service offers---- so hearing of your experience helps one avoid problems---
