I do this often when trying to root a cutting. And you leave it on until well rooted. You may take the plastic off on occasion to let the plant and soil air out a bit and to keep things from rotting or fungus from growing. But the small greenhouse effect is a very good way to root new plants.

so your saying put them in say root hormne, then in dirt, but still mist and cover with a plastic bag???

I have only done the plastic bag/water mist thing with seeds that I was starting for the garden. My dad was my director for that idea.

OK then thanks--I will remember this for the future.

They just root much faster in the greenhouse affect with the plastic bag. John used it all of the time in the Ag department at school for going-home projects. The idea is to keep the temps and moisture controlled and even as possible.
Plants rooted in water develop 'water roots'. Those water roots can help during the transfer to soil but they are not true soil roots that still need to develop. I skip the water routine and go straight to soil rooting with the plastic for a stronger beginning and one less step to go wrong.
