Hello everyone. I am new to this forum. I'm very happy to be here. I have a 2,300 gallon pond that I have koi fish and water lilies in. I also have a smaller pond where I keep other plants and lotus. I am growing many lotus and will be building a lotus bog in the near future. I am very excited about that. I love water gardening and just love water plants. I am looking forward to sharing ideas with new people who have the same intrests as myself. I live in California and I am in planting zone 8b. I'm looking foward to being a part of this group. Thank you realsis77

Welcome, 00009. I am also from California. I have a pond but no pond plants. Raccoons keep eating them.

Hi Realsis77 and welcome to the forum! It is so nice to meet you!

I am in coastal Maine & we are a titch colder than where you are.... yes, just a titch! lol

Do you start your lotus from seed or otherwise? A few years ago another member and I shared some lotus seeds and neither one of us could get them to germinate even following the complex instructions.

Again, I'm glad you found us!

We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart?
The other heart was given to another for us to find.

Hi Realsis77 - and welcome!

I have a 3000 gallon pond that my husband built by hand after a contractor dug out the hole for us while he was laying the sewer line in our house. The first 2 summers were trial and mostly error as far as getting the water and fish established, but last summer and this it's doing well. Well except for all the string algae that refuses to go away!

Here in zone6 NY, we had to use a heater in it last winter so the fish would survive. That cost more than a pretty penny in our electric bill, so we don't know what is going to happen when this winter comes.

I have 3 koi, about 16 sarassa comets, and 6 water lily plants. Lots of marginal plants on the shelves on the sides of the pond.

I would LOVE to grow some lotus, but as they are not hardy here, I can't justify the price tags, you know?

Come on down to the "water gardening" section here in "Landscape trials and triumphs". I have written about our pond there since day one - there are a few threads about it there. And please tell us more about your pond there with pictures of course! We LOVE LOVE LOVE pictures!!!

Lynne
