excluding Thanksgiving I had teh most wonderful meal I have jhad since I got home from the hospital.
I made a hamburger/vegetable soup.

I used deer, an extra cup of water, 1/2 the sodium and 1/2 the worchestershire sauce. It was still yummy!!!!
I told DH that it was so good that there had to be something wrong with it---lol
going to watch my shows now--back later---bye

That sounds pretty yummy, Carol. What I have heard from people who have had heart problems, is that it changes your tastes. What used to be favorites don't quite taste the same. They have had to adjust to finding new favorites somewhere within the limits of their taste buds or something.

well I dont think my taste buds have changed but I cannot have very much sodium & not much fat---so making things taste good is kinda hard. But this was ok--meat was kinda bland but hey it sure beat anything I have had for a long time- The original recipe is tops !!!!

They told me I would get used to the low sodium thing & then food would taste good to me once again---I will believe that if it happens

Carol, I've never heard any cardiac patient say heart disease changed their taste. I have heard plenty of us say one gets used to things in a new way & it is quite true that salt is an acquired taste. If people go without it for an extended time, then salt doesn't taste good after that... you have to re-learn to like it.

I've been a cardiac patient for 10 years this summer & I suddenly didn't acquire a taste for sweet snacks over salty ones or a fondness for vinegar instead of mayo. If given my choice, I would still chose the things I have always liked & sweet stuffs have never been on my list of favorites.

Still, a little discipline goes a long way, as you well know, and a person can get used to just about anything if it means saving the life.

I believe you can do this, hands down! And do not be discouraged if you do not suddenly become a person who dislikes salt. You are who you are but you can control it; I know you can.

yes I can do this but I am just so very tired of food tasting like slop, to put it plainly. The rehab nurses helped me find a chicken soup recipe today & I think I will like it----if I can eat soup I will be ok---

the not liking the food has helped me not eat--so that is good--unless I get into trouble for not eating enough sodium. There are lots of days I do not go anywhere near 1000 mg. I read where that is not a good thing to be doing--but we shall see what the drs say next month.

yes I can do this--and the nasty tasting food helps really because then I do not want to eat--& so I eat very little---just enough really to keep my stomach quiet.
Tonight was funny because I wanted to eat a second helping because it tasted so good---of course I did not do so but still I wanted to.

it made me happy. I will have some left for lunches the next few days. I am so happy it is funny

thanks for your kind words kissie

I finally got finished w/ cardiology & now I'm on hold elsewhere! lol

I've scheduled an echo cardiogram for 12/14 at the big hospital in Portland. And after that, I will go see my cardiologist at his offices in another town. They left time between the appointments for the drive. Then I had to call my agency & get permission to change my attendant's hours for that day so she can drive me.

They think my ejection fraction has gotten much lower which would account for many of the symptoms I've been having. Last year it was at 42%. Now they are thinking it might be down into the 30%'s. The ejection fraction measures how well your heart pushes the blood flow out. Damage to the heart muscle, drops the heart's ability to move blood out.

If my ejection fraction has gotten lower, they will have to change the protocol for my dialysis because a lower fraction would mean my heart can't manage fluid the way it used to do.

A little complicated but I have confidence in my doc's to work it out.

And the blood clot I blew into the right lung has dissolved completely & is not giving me any further trouble. So all is very well.

Good morning everyone. Sorry I wasn't around yesterday, wasn't feeling very good. I did manage to get my doctor to agree to test my vitamin d level. That could explain my symptoms. If it's not my vitamin d then I guess I'm just mental and will have to find another non-medicated way to deal with SAD. At first my doctor wouldn't test me because I live in the PNW so of course I'd test low. She advised me to take 1,000 units a day. I examined to her that I already take 1,600 units a day, via vitamins, and it hasn't made a difference. Anyway, I'll take my lunch break to get my blood drawn. Other than that I'm doing well, work is good, nit overly busy day and only 4 days for me this week. Tonight I have PT, which I look forward to. Hope everyones having a great day!

Cheryl I have friends who suffer from SAD as well & they prefer a more holistic approach to treatment. They take the vitamin D but they also go to tanning salons for short periods on a regular basis. This really boosts them up through our very dreary sunless winters.

And be sure you are getting enough calcium w/ all that D.

I won't go to a tanning bed. I'm very pale and try very hard to protect myself against skin cancer. I'm paranoid. I do take calcium. I have to because if the acid reducer that I take. My calcium pills have 400 units of vitamin d, which I take twice a day per gastroenterologist instructions. I also take a womens multivitamin that has 800 units of vitamin d. I'm sure it has some calcium as well. Since I don't do dairy I have to make sure I'm getting calcium elsewhere. I have thought about investing in a light box but they are pricey. I still haven't looked for the light bulbs that Tina had suggested. I should do that and buy a lamp for my desk at work to put the bulb in. I've got time to run to the lab right now, see you later!

Maxi just left for his dad's to stay a couple of days so they can get him back & forth to school. I loaded his dad's girlfriend up w/ useful things.... hamburger, apples & oranges, dinner rolls, toilet paper & $10.

Then I remembered I hadn't yet given the donation box away & it was filled with small toys I had washed & santized. So I told her little one to "help" me go through that box. He is 3 years old, so off we went to dig through that box! I gave him an empty shopping bag & we found a ton of small toys.... animals, cowboys, soldiers, cartoon characters, Disney characters, Star Wars, Batman, Spider Man, Iron Man, Dragon Ball Z characters, etc., etc. All the ones Maxi loved when he was little. A big bag of balls from very large to teeny tiny. I had already bagged the toys up in sandwich bags to keep like items together, but he wanted to open the bags & look at them individually. He was DELIGHTED! and promised to come help me clean up toys again! lol

Maxi has a concert tonight. He is singing in the school choir, so that is nice. I'm sorry I have to miss it!

Sorry you have to miss Maxi's singing in teh choir, Merme. I am sure he will do a fantastic job. perhaps he could do a solo foryo at a later date???

WE are writing Thank you cards tomorrow at moms. I wish she would do it at a time my brother could be there---so I made a point to ask him how many he needed put aside so he could write thank yous to his friends.

That card writing is a real bear, Carol. I think I got about 2/3 of John's done for all of the condolences and donations made to various charities in his name. Then my paperwork got all jumbled and lists got lost. I know I missed some somewhere. I hope I can be forgiven.
I hope it goes well tomorrow.
It has been a long and expensive day (Jonni/dentist). I am heading to bed early.

thanks for your kind words, Tina--I am sure we will forget some too, as the flowers/plants were carted about in the rain so much & handed out to family members---we can only hope we have all of the cards. Luckily the donations were typed up in dad's book for us, as were the donations of food.

Sorry about the dentist...sleep well good night.

Good night everyone. snooz

Good morning, everybody!

Carol I will be thinking of you in my prayers as you & your mom tackle that Thank You card list. It is a difficult task but God bless you for doing it.

Speaking of dentists... a dear friend of mine has been battling ovarian cancer for 4 years or so & was disabled by it about 1 1/2 years ago. But the new guidelines for disability Social Security state that you can't receive Medicare until you've been disabled 29 months! She will not qualify for that for another year IF she is blessed enough to survive that long! Meanwhile, her insurance she carries from her last job (she was a PT for many years) is running out. So yesterday she went to the dentist for a crown while she still has coverage.

I can't imagine how much all her cancer treatments are costing as she has been on chemotherapy non-stop from the beginning & has had many surgeries. In my opinion, she should have qualified for Medicare right away. Everyone who works pays into the system so it doesn't seem fair.

Oops, my phone is busy this morning! See you all later!

Carol, good luck with the cards. I'm horrible at thank you cards. Merme, sorry about your friend. Seems to me that each state has different rules regarding Medicare and disability. My SIL's husband was sick with pneumonia and the antibiotics didn't work. He's on temp disability and he was prescribed IV antibiotics and Medicare wouldn't cover it. They are broke (long story there) so he refused the medicine. He ended up in the ER and almost died. The hospital gave him the IV drugs and at that point he really didn't have a choice. He has two young children, one with severe food allergies. I feel sorry for them in a way but knowing their whole story there's a part of me that wants to smack him silly. I do hope your friend gets some help. There should be exceptions for people in her situation. Is there no temp disability while she's waiting? I'm still waiting on my blood test results. Usually they're faster than that. Oh well, I'll just have to wait.

I understand wanting to smack someone for the way they budget (or don't) their funds, Cheryl. Sometimes I want to smack myself! lol So the 'feeling sorry for' and 'being annoyed with' are not as contradictory as they sound. We most often make many of our own choices.
I am having a busy day again. I paid bills and brought in wood. I will need to bring in more wood but I am taking a break.

Just in for 5..took DD to see her apartment today. It's really nice but not up to any 'cleaning standards' so we house cleaned all day then will have to go back to paint this week and clean some more. Her moving has been put off for another week at least...and I am dog tired kilroy

I'll catch up on here tomorrow...

Tamara, I don't know how you and Tina do it. Most of your posts exhaust me just reading them. Work was pretty slow today. Helped with the employee flu clinic, didn't get too much slack about not getting the flu shot. Tomorrow is my busy day and also my last work day for the week. I don't have anything yet planned for this weekend except perhaps some grocery shopping. Possibly a walk/jog? We'll see how my PT feels about that one, but I know I would be stoked to get back out there. I'm going to write for a little while then head off to bed early I think. We all stayed up late last night and I'm going to need my energy for tomorrow. Good night everyone!
