Bought at Walmart last fall - this is what came up - what is it? It was suppose to be pink tulips. I was wondering why they were starting to bud when they were very short!

not sure what they are, but they are beautiful!

You may have purchased a species tulip. They are short, have a wide open day bloom and close at night. These are perennial tulips.

Those are very nice, most varieties of species tulip stay very small don't they?

Must be - they close up at night.

All of my early spring bulbs including the tulips were short this year. I was told that it was because of the warm winter. It kind of messed things up around here. I've notice that the tulips that are blooming now are much taller than mine where. Nice looking flowers by the way.

Early season single and species tulips by nature are short stemmed, I have a variety that doesn't get much taller than 8" and gets dwarfed by muscari.

Mid season tulips coming on now are a medium length with late season tulips being tallest, some growing upward of 25".

hybrid tulips

Will stick with regular tulips, not water ones.
