Bought a house . . . leaves have killed the yard! Where do I start. Is it as easy as aerating? Or do I need to tear up the yard and start over?

Was it the leaves or was it the shade. Grass doesn't like shade much. Let's get into spring before you decide what you need to do. That would be my suggestion.

---I agree with TK, but right now,, I would rake up all the leaves, or at least as many as possible. As TK advises, when spring gets here you will know a bit more

Thank you so much . . .not sure if was the leaves or the shade? But, I do know the house was vacant all spring and summer and there was no yard work done at all. Looks like I have a long road ahead of me. LOL!

Hopefully with the arrival of spring your lawn might perk up a little. Perhaps you could sprinkle a little grass seed over the area to help fill the gaps?

Our yard has a lot of trees and if we don't keep the leaves off the grass the grass will die and we have to reseed. It happens every year in a spot or two, depending on which way the wind blows. Is it your entire yard? For our areas we run over it with an aerator then put out grass seed and cover with straw. Not much work
