I'm a novice (and nervous!) gardener in Michigan. My mom did grow a vegetable garden when I was a child and of course I was put to work in it, but my heart wasn't in it at the time. Since then I've been trying to grow my own vegetable gardens and I think some things have turned out in spite of me, but I'd like them to be better! I'll be relying heavily on advice here mostly for vegetable gardens, but also for flowers too. I also suffer from Fibromyalgia so I also am looking for things to make gardening a bit easier on me.

Welcome to the forum and to gardening. The best way to start is just to dive in. Make sure your reading labels especially for light levels and have fun with it. Not everything will grow but most plants are worth a try. Good Luck with your gardens.

Start by taking a soil sample and sending it to the University Extended Coop. I say this a lot but if you start with the right soil your going to have the best crops with less problems with disease and pests.

Fill out the paperwork including what you plan to plant to get the best results. Then plan on a nice talk with the master gardeners at the coop to explain how to use the information you get back.

Other than that keep your veggie garden weed and pest free. Rotate the veggies so that the soil doesn't get depleted. Plant a cover crop in the winter to rejuvenate the soil and keep it from erroding. And companion plant when you can.

Good luck with your garden.
