Today, I bought the Jiffy triple greenhouse and the Jiffy organice soil. I planted my veggie seeds (various peppers, onions, tomatoes)this afternoon and I am concerned as I plaaced the trays on top of my fridge as I read that will provide warmth to the seeds. When I placed them above my fridge, I realized the fridge is not producing any heat. It's rather cold in my opinion. I am concerned that I will net get anything to sprout. Should I moved them in front of my sliding glass window (which gets sunlight all day) or do I need to buy a heating pad or portable greenhouse. I saw one at lowes today for around $40 that I could have inside. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I don't recommend Jiffy because it dries out quickly. And I've found that I can do just as good with yogurt cups (I don't have to transplant as often), miracle gro potting soil (instead of special starting soils), and no greenhouse what so ever (they usually get to humid).

peppers don't like to sprout until it's in the 80's. I sprout mine by putting a regular heating pad underneath them. It worked like a charm. Much cheaper than 40.00 bucks. A south facing window is always good. Tomatoes are very easy to go so I definitely wouldn't do any thing special for them. As far as onions it depends on what kind you are talking about. Green onions i direct sow, Yellow, White, or Red onions are usually grown from slips rather than seed although I've heard it can be done as long as you are ready to start them early and harvest them all at one time.

Thank you very much for the reply. I moved my seeds today from the fridge to in front of the sliding glass window which I know gets sun all day. I will look into a heating pad this afternoon as I don't want wasted money. I've looked this morning to make sure they weren't dried out (they weren't). As for the onions, I did the yellow onions and have the red onions awaiting planing. However, if they can go right into the ground I may hold off on that.

If your going from seed you had better go on and plant indoors.

Today is day 4 and my greenhouse is has condensation in each of the greenhouse lids. Looks like a good sign! I am hoping to do some more seeds this weekend :)
