Anyone have any ideas on how to discourage/get rid of these really itty bitty, yet numerous and annoying pests?

HI,, IF you can take houseplants outdoors and Hose them off first and that will get rid of quite a few,, then put a few drops of dishsoap in a spray bottle full of water and spray really good for a few days,, works for indoor and out door plants,, spray for a few day to be sure you got them all,, at least that is what I've done and seemed to do the trick.
I have also done that in an end- hose sprayer for in ground plants.
Lets us know if it worked for you.
btw I used Joy dish soap and always keep a bottle in my gardening supplies for just this purpose

Hey you can go for Sticky traps insect control device or Sticky insect sensor cards which easily pulls small insects and pests specifically fungus gnats and whiteflies. These insects control devices available on the market to suit your garden and your requirement and it cost very cheap.

Get sticky traps or sticky insect sensor cards to get rid of small insects and gnats. Even you can apply some neem oil to your plant leaves and another method is wash your plant with detergent soap water.
