This was growing on the side of my cousin's new house. It was mostly dead, but I managed to save this piece with some nice roots attached. When I rubbed the leaves, I thought it smelled like lavender (a scent I do not like too much), but when I had Lisa do the same, she said it smelled like vomit and it could not be lavender!!! She is not a gardener. I took the piece home and planted it in a pot on my deck this afternoon, because curiosity got the better of me.
Anyone know what this is?

It has a few small buds.

Looks like it could be ~ there are several varieties. And some of those varieties even come in different colors, the leaves look right or at least similar to some I had . The one you posted has a woody stock? If so it must have some age to it.

I was wondering if it was some type of sage also - it's funny - those are the 2 herbs that I dislike the most - lavender and sage! But I will try to grow this because it's a challenge!
