We didn't have time to plant a garden this year, but I'm actually starting to plan next year's garden. It is going to be completely vertical. Anyways, I'm wondering where the best places to order heirloom veggie seeds are. I like the idea of being able to use the seeds from one year's veggies for the next year's garden.

I know the answer to this but my brain won't think of it. I used to order from a very reputable small company...very good quality and service. Now if I can just think of the name.... egad

...guess that didn't help you any.... blush

Was it Baker Creek seeds by any chance? That is where a friend of mine got hers this year. She got heirloom seeds for everything except corn because they were sold out by the time she ordered her seeds.

At this point, I'm just making a list of what seeds I would like for next year and then comparing prices.

I get seeds from Eden Brothers and they have an heirloom section. I haven't really searched that section.

So yesterday I got an email sales thing that Eden Bros had their seeds for 25% off right now and went cruising the site. I did purchase the ones I wanted and also checked out their heirlooms. I think you could probably find most that you needed right there, Jenn.

This post reminded me that I have a question about seed potatoes. I'm confused about what I've been reading. It sounds like the grocery store potato is treated with something that keeps it from sprouting. I'm probably not interested in growing something from a typical grocery store potato anyhow. If I got some organic potatoes from a farmer's market, can those be used as seed potatoes? I've also read that you should by seed potatoes specifically certified disease-free. How important is this? If I am going to spend the extra money to order them from a reputable dealer, then I also want them to be non-gmo and organic. Any idea where I can find something like this? We eat a lot of potatoes and really want to grow lots this year. Thanks! ~Beth~

The problems living in California is some places will not ship seed potatoes here. It really sucks. Cal.Ag is really strict about some importing some plants and many trees too. But here is a farm for seed taters not too far away from you where you may find your needs met.
