We have been since February without our washer and dryer as they've been on the POD. On Saturday we brought them in and my friend hooked up the washer, showing Maxi how to do it. When they got to the dryer, we couldn't do a thing.
Why?
My dryer has a 4 prong plug and the outlet is only for 3 prongs.
I called Lowe's to ask about an adapter. No such critter exists! He said I will have to get an electrician to come change the cord on my dryer!
Now I ask you, how much is THAT going to cost?
A friend suggested I let an amateur change the cord. No way is that happening.
The good thing is, it is still summer and I don't need the dryer yet.
ay-yi-yi!
We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart? The other heart was given to another for us to find.

I have changed those cords out many times...but (believe it or not) I have an electrician license but I still feel like an amateur. Maybe you could get the landlord to change the receptacle out instead of you having to change your cord?

Cindy ~ yes, I remember you are an electrician -- among other useful things! I was wondering about having the outlet changed, too, Cindy. Maybe the landlord would go for it as the 3 prong is apparently quite obsolete. My dryer is 5 years old; wouldn't want to take it back a decade!

Merme, When electric ranges are sold today they are sold without the electical line and the lines have to be purchased separatly. We just bought a new range and were told that some houses have 3 prong and some have 4 prong outlets. The 4 prong outlets are now the code in our area. Maybe the same is true for dryers. If your 3 prong outlet is out of code in your area, you may have a stronger case for having it replaced.

The 3 prong only cost about $8.00 @ Wal-Mart or Home Depot only takes a few minutes to change out so should not cost that much over all but if they don't know what their doing don't let them touch it !!!
