Today I came to work with the sole purpose to run and judge the cookie contest! Unfortunately we only had ate entrys and 6 judges this year. Usually we have 11-12 entries and judges. So tasty, but I think I've given myself a tummy ache from the sugar.

A cookie contest sounds fun, Shani. Good morning. I cannot believe I wasn't in here posting earlier. I've been up for a couple of hours. My brain is just not functioning properly. It is about time to get out the door. Another day is breaking.

The cookie contest was great, to day we get to go hiking for a donation. $10 minimum to leave work and hike for a few hours in the afternoon. sounds good to me. Its also the first of the activities I'm not running or helping with so I can relax and enjoy it. Tomorrow I get to call BINGO again.

It sounds like you actually have a fun place to work, Shani. Good morning. I don't like to wake up on Wednesdays. But I did. I am not sure what all I will be doing today. just hope it is productive at the end of the day.

It is a pretty fun place to work especially in October. The pay is good the vacation time is great, and I can easily arrange my schedule to take the time I want at short notice, they only really ash for a week or two notice if its going to be more than a few days I'm taking off.
I understand about wednesdays, Its hard especially when its rainy and dark. There was an accident on the road I usually take to work this morning so they closed it between the major roads and I ended up with a 6 and a half km detour to work on a road that is far too over used for its size. I miss the quiet roads much nicer for a commute. It ended up takeing an extra 10 minutes to get here today.

I was sleeping so nice & the Drs office called me to give me the lab results from my MIL (that ius how we do it) So, up I am.
Yesterday I spent like 1-1/2 hours at the eye Drs. and it seems that I have a very bad cararact. and one that just needs fixed--so I will have both eyes done---sadly both will have to wait until December to get done. The 1st & the 15th. But since ins will not p ay for the nice lenses I will still be wearing reading glasses afterwards---oh well, I guess I am now, huh???
now to try to get my Holiday cleaning & shopping done early this year---

Shani glad you enjoy the job.. Most dont .LOL
Carol. Bummer.. Sure hope all goes well with the eyes.. Were all prone to that. What do they do , put in implants or what? Had a friend who they just took cataracts off an added nothing.. Now she is nearly blind. Sad.
God bless

Its a good job, but all these events and I think I'm starting to fall behind on actual work. My jaw is now quite sore from calling the Bingo numbers for the last hour, I think I gave away upwards of 35-40 prizes.
Carol with the way that time flys it will over before you know it. I hope it all goes well.

Evening all, We woke up to snow this morning... snowed most of the day too.. and it is cold- dropped almost 50* in one day.. BRRRR! My deck has at least 6 inches of the white stuff out there.
I had my cataracts removed last yr .. and I still wear glasses- got the good lenses too.. insurance wouldn't pay but hubby said it was worth the 2200 extra to be not half blind still.. I had a lot of astigmitisim so though he corrected it a lot it is still there some.. be prepared to wear dark glasses for a while after... I do see a lot clearer and my glasses are a lot thinner than they used to be... Joe woke up this morning and his back was out.. but he took it easy for awhile... and took some motrin- he is better now... hopefully was just the big drop in temps that did it.. I know it made me ache a lot at first this morning..
Did have some good news from my insurance co.. my doc wants me to get the shingles shot but it costs 200. and he said the insurance doesn't always cover it- I called and they do.. in full so guess I will be getting that on my next visit.. have to go in for a bone density scan to check for osteo prob- it runs in family so hopefully I don't have it but we will see.. I do take extra calcium and have always been a milk drinker... my Mom who had it bad wouldn't drink milk ever... she used to give us cod liver oil though when we lived in Alaska for extra vit D.. boy that is nasty stuff ... but hope it worked.. Well I am tired so hitting my bed early tonight- as soon as Joe is done eating doing dishes up and heading up to my pillow.. Have a good night all - sleep well. Nana

The Colorado snows made it in our news today and I was thinking about you, Nana. I hope it stays out of your bones more this year, and Joe's too. I didn't do a lot with my day. But I did a little housekeeping and things so it was not totally wasted.

Nana
I was at denver in the summer an was amazed of the snow there in July.
Just wondering if you ski ? What does your hubby do for a living there? Seemed like quite an elaborate setup in Denver. Wide streets an fancy homes. I guess most of the ski resorts are fancied up..

hi Dodge, No don't ski... never liked heights and now to old to try it... couple of my grands ski and snowboard... My hubby works for a phone company,, he has 37 yrs now- we actually met there when it was still Mt Bell, then it was US West and ATT, then I retired, he stayed thru Qwest and now Century Link.. hoping to retire in next couple yrs if economy lets us.. good old Nachio took a bout 3/4 of what we had put away for our retirement so we are still trying to get some of it back ... Downtown Denver does have a lot of nice old homes... love those.. but we live in the suburbs.. sw of Denver- Littleton..close to the mtns..we have nice views from out house... The ski areas are really fance and expensive... we tried to go to Aspen once in the summer and they wanted money to park at a city park area... cost to park everywhere... we just drove thru and went to another small town to take a walk... LOL! Lots of movie star types have homes up there too.. We do get snow in mts well into June and July- we could see snow on the peaks till Aug this last yr... there is snow right now in my yard .. lots of power out from trees knocking poles down.. it is getting warmer now though so it will be gone by Sun they say and warm up for the trick or treaters... that is good for our grands... won't have to wear parkas over their costumes...one yr there was 3 ft of snow for Halloween.. we had an indoor party for the neighborhood kids ... Well just mopped kitchen so bet it's dry now- got to get stuff put away and get something made to feed boys when they get here and are starving.... Nana

There is something in the winds that has my nose really going to town. I am not sick or anything, just draining and sneezing. I got my son to school this morning all dressed in orange and carrying his pumpkins stuffed with goodies. I feel sorry for most of the kids at his school and their parents. They did not send home notices that Halloween would be celebrated today as opposed to Monday. So most of the kids are not dressed. I only knew it was today because I asked on Wednesday what the plans were. Teddy won't wear a costume so for him, it isn't a big deal. But some kids will be disappointed.

I know seems early for snow here too.. but the mtn skiers love it so do the tourists that come - just wish they would keep it in the mtns and let us who want it go up to play in it... LOL!
It is nice today and snow is almost all melted away... did a lot of damage to trees though and power lines are still down in some places.. trees still had leaves so when heavy snow it they came down .. not a good time to have branches over your house or car - alot of people found that out the hard way . Carrie and I went out to lunch today.. it's her birthday.. then we went to Big Lots and I found a pretty candle holder for my table- it's wrought iron frame with curved stained glass red leaf design - holds a pillar candle- it's really pretty.. found some digital cameras too- they also do videos too.. so boys are getting those for Chirstmas , found a cute sign for oldest dd too - so I have officially started Christmas shopping. Well off to start some dinner- have a pork roast- going to bake some taters too..that will be dinner for us... trying to empty my freezer some so I can cook big again and fill it up.. need to get a turkey soon for Thanksgiving- Carrie an her family are going up to his Mom's time share that week so will just have Joseph her with us and the other two kids familys.. so can either have more leftovers or buy a smaller turkey... hmmmmmm Nana

yea well, I sure hope so, but thanks for the kind words. Nana---When we were in Colorado we saw snow--and it was the middle of July--Denver had snow and so did Pikes Peak--The kids played in it.. About the surgery--- It would cost me $2600.00 an eye for the "good" lenses--so no nicer lenses for me unless I can call my Opthalmologist & get him to say it is medically necessary, I cannot have them--If I had $5200.00 sitting around that I could use for my eyes, I would probably stay up all night & count it---

Most of our snow stays up at higher elevations here. It is great for the skiers. And then they can come down off the mountain and go water skiing or surfing the same day if they want. California can be fun. Although expensive. I napped a little without actually sleeping. I really don't have big plans for my weekend. There is a party I could attend and might. But not in costume. We will see.

Happy Saturday. It is sunny and warm today. The winds finally pretty much died finally. I'm thinking it might be a good day to get up and sweep the litter it left off the roof and clean out the rain gutters. It is supposed to rain end of the week.

This seasonal change does seem a little more drastic than most. But that could be my age. When I was a kid summer lasted forever and ever. It shortened every year as I aged.

LOh My Goodness. You both (Barb & Lynne) have my complete sympathies. Until it learns to stay off of the sidewalks & roads, I am never happy to see snow. When my girls were in school and then teaching I would get up & watch for the school closings during the snow season--IF they got to stay home I would go back to sleep. If they did have school anyway I would stay up until I got phone calls that they were safe at school & then the reverse at night. Have I mentioned that I do not like winter ????

We hate it so much we never move out of the state. Just like everyne else.......... Not to mention I worried till Hubby got to an from work also. Once he was stopped from going , they had a flood in town.. He had to stay home. And my son I thought was too little to go to scholl at 5. THey went so early. an came home so late. However the way to beat the weather is to join it.. Riding 4 wheeler is my bag. I love it , but get so tired .. Fool like me doesnt like to come in . Dont have to tend the yard so I need another hobby.. Hubby is gone an son lives in town. dodge

well I am glad that you like to be on the 4 wheeler, Barb.. I guess that is one way to look forward to the snow coming, HUH???---and while your son may be ion town, at least he is not in another state. I do so heope for you that the snow does not stay so long at your & Lynne's houses. Dodge, please be careful when you are out in the snow, there is no one around to miss you or to know if you fell & were hurt..

My sincere sympathies to those with the unseasonab le winter storms also. The weather here is sunny b ut not so warm--48 now but we will have a high of 60 at some point today. I'll take i t while I c an get i t---we are ha ving frosts at night though. Today I am making my 6th pie for our churches Sausage supper. then tonight I will be going to fill 4 cup containers with the cranberry relish that we sell at the end of the supper. I can do that job sitting down.. My youngest is coming at some point to go and eat at the Supper with me...Not that I can eat any of the food there, but I can find a piece of pie that I can eat---so I will do that. Spending time with my DD & her DH will be the main point

Spending time with my DD & her DH will be the main point So glad you get to be with your daughter today. And that you can find a piece of pie to eat. I am now eating a very dried out egg sandwich here at The Home while sitting with mom. The food here leaves MUCH to be desired! I would give anything to be up to 60* today - our high will maybe get to 40*. We lost power/heat right at midnight last night. My toes are still working on thawing out!

Sorry about your snow and cold weather . I went over to Diane's this afternoon we sat out on her patio talking and enjoying the 70f weather after the 110 heat we had all summer is almost like winter.

We hit 80+ here today. I did not take good advantage of it though. I mostly worked indoors.
