What is the best and easiest way to propagate a philonderon? I had a large 2-3 foot vine break off. I would like to try and save it. I have read about sticking the stem in water and I have read about dipping the steam in rooting powder and sticking it in moist rich soil. Right now I cut it at a node (at least I think I did, I cut it at an angle right were a leaf was) and stuck it in water until I can figure out what to do. Please help!

The cut should have been about 1/2" below the node, at a slight angle. While roots will form in water, they are much more brittle than roots formed in soil, so you will have to be extra careful if and when you plant the water cutting . The soil rooted cutting is already planted.

I have been rooting philodendron in water for some 30 plus years and have h ad no problems---and while I try to cut my pieces as Bill said, when they break off I just stick them in water as they break off if I can not trim them---most of the time they root too.

My grandmother believed in adding african violet food to the water of the plants she wished to root. It worked like a charm
