I have a question concerning the health of one of my japanese maples. One of my maples has like a dark sootie like trunk with peach-colored splotches and is behind the other maples in leafing out, I am in Oregon, nw corner.
Is there something wrong with the tree? Oh, it is a green seedling that I saved from my father's throwaway pile when he exited the business.

sounds like a fungus

I love the sweet scents wafting in the breeze. I stop to admire the vibrant colors of all living things. And people think me odd. Then ODD I am!!!

Suki,

I almost never recommend planting a Japanese maple from seed as it is difficult to know what you are getting until years down the road, especially if it a red laceleaf variety.
