Hello! I'm new to the forum as well as to bare root planting. I was hoping to find some success stories as well as pictures to encourage me when I get my mail-order bare root perennials soon.

Any tips and tricks for getting rid of voles in the garden without hurting new plants would be great as well!

Great to be here!

Hi there! Years ago I got a shade garden "kit" from Gurney's...most of the things in there were bare root....hosta, bleeding hearts, ferns, etc.

The roots that you get will probably be in bags with maybe some saw dust. Just follow the directions on the bags. They aren't hard. Keep in mind that it'll take until at least next year for your plants to get nice and full. ...at least that is how mine went.

As for voles, We just find their hole and put the hose into it and flood out the nest to kill any babies.
