Thunk is a word.
I have been embarrassed by the state of my house. I have not invited anyone in pretty much since John died. First I had to clean up outdoors because of the fire danger. It went way downhill during his years of rounds of transfusions, chemo and such. And I kept bagging up stuff in the house to deal with later. I had trouble getting to it.
Repairs came next because there were things falling apart that had been put off during those times. And had to keep maintaining the property to avert wildfires. Roof patching, rain gutters falling down in a couple places, watering system for the trees and plants. A house is a never ending thing to maintain.
And then firewood to collect, split, stack, haul.
So I am going through all of that stuff I put off to do those things. And cleaning everything as I go along.
I am not as embarrassed by my house now. But, boy, do I need to paint!
Sweet dreams all. I'm heading towards my pillow.

Wow, Tina you have been one busy little girl...so sorry you are on your own. There is a lot to the upkeep with a house. I can not imagine doing it all my own.

Carol, I hope you don't have to move, unless it is something you really want to do! Where in IL is Worden? We moved from IL in 1970 from Arlington Heights so I am not familiar with too much of IL. The economy is just not turning around....... tears

We have a local clinic here in town which is kind of a joke, Gillette is only 45 min away, but doctoring there is often iffy, so that is why I drive 3 hours to go to Rapid City! I finally just had to come to the realization that it is worth it becasue of the care we get over there.

My electricity was out for about an hour yesterday, I kind of felt like a fish out of water! Couldn't work, couldn't compute! It was smack in the hottest part of the day, I did go work in one of my vegie beds, but couldn't do it for too long. Can't imagine all those people on the east coast being out of electricity for those extended periods.

Off to Rapid, Have a great Friday flwr

And I've got real rain this morning. It is a lovely, dust-settling rain. I am a very happy desert dweller.

About the rain----every day my computer forcasts storms for the next day--then they never happen & we get sunshine---(well yesterday it did go so far as to be overcast) Tina congratulations to you on your rain.

Arlington Heights is a suburb os Chicage---(as you are aware) and Worden is about 5 hours south west of Chicago. We are south of Springfield about 1-1/2 hours & about 40 miles North east of St. Louis, MO. So about mid-way between Springfield IL & St. Louis, MO.

About Moving---Well, I may want to---depending on what Emily does. The plan WAS to probably move to Southern Missouri when Valarie & her DH do so in a few years. At the time this was discussed, my youngest was not a consideration because she always talked of moving to the east coast or back to CA. BUT now that she is going to have a child, That idea may have changed. and we are already close to her---so we shall see.

No I was feeling badly about my financial situation. Sorry to have complained out in the open. If things do not improve in the economy or if I do not find a job (who wants to hire a 60 yr old woman who cannot lift more than 20 pounds?) WE will be selling this house, and renting with the proceeds, before it is sold for non-payemnt of Taxes. This county is rediculous on taxes. I figure I have about 1 to 2 more years I can stay here in the current economy.

Happy Friday the 13th everyone. fidget

It is trying to rain here (as the sun shines), but it is mostly evaporating before it hits the ground. Thunderstorms are forecast here for the next few days...

I hope a job falls in your lap soon, Carol. Are you in line to care for your grandchild? A little income could help both you and your daughter in these times.

I am restructuring my life too. Based on my age and finances. Changing my plans for our future in general.

Thanks Tina, I apply when I find one that would work.
No, I am not in said line---My DD, dear child that she is, told me I didnt need a baby bed--after all I would'nt be having the child much. angdev

Where she is going to teach has child care in-house for the teachers. And the room is right next to where Emily's school room will be---BUT she is going to augment that care with a friend of hers, who also has a small boy., and was a nanny before she had her boy.
And, yes, while it would solve all kinds of problems for us all if I did watch my grandson, I cannot get too upset at her not asking, as we live 40 minutes apart.

40 minutes is a long haul. But watch out. She may change her mind when there are sniffles and teething and such to deal with. And if you have that baby bed around, keep it handy. Even for a visit, somewhere to keep baby to rest up will be a blessing. When you travel with a little one, you feel like you are bringing your whole house with you. Having a destination where you can not have to worry as much is very nice.

thumbup

I have been gone all day...doctor then paying bills, a 'visit' at the IRS office madd and finally home. Made Lola supper but I can't eat...so the 'dog' got a good meal tonight.

The economy....don't get me started on this subject. I am going to have to start painting again to make some extra money. I can't live without the internet, and that is one of my biggest bills each month. If I knew where/how to sell all this 'stuff' I have in storage I would be a millionaire probably...collectible stuff that would fetch big bucks if I knew where to sell it....but yet it sits here in a storage building I have to pay for every month. I need to get my act together and figure this out.....

I am not a "yard seller"....lol
I tried that back in the 70's....and I ended up both times shutting the yard sale down within the first hour (this was before I painted...just clothes and what-nots)....because I can't deal with "people". blush

yes, E-bay is a great idea--you NEED the internet and it is all done online--and added plus !!!!

you could take a picture, post the auction & just wait---when it sells, you send it off. many people just mail out 1 or 2 days a week, & if ya say so up front, it is all good---sounds to me as if that would be right up your alley---

my cousin says it is not hard to do. ALSO, I think e-bay has a tutorial on how to do this. so there is not much of a learning curve. no matter waht, good luck...

Have Rachel open an ebay store for you. She already sells. She can deal with the people, you send pictures and give her ideas what you want for it. Then she sends you an addy to mail off to. Split some of the the earnings with her for her troubles.

Oh and share your collectibles here. You may just have ready made customers in amongst your friends. Just know, if I have to dust it, I probably don't want it (no matter how much I want it!)
