My Eastern Redbud has been dying off slowly since I transplanted it this spring. It looks like leaf scorch or maybe verticillium wilt, but no pictures on google actually match what I am seeing. The leaves on the branches have turned black on the edges and curled up, then died. Luckily, there seems to be a tremendous amount of new growth on the tree trunk itself, so I am hoping it survives. I'm afraid to leave it be though, because I dont know what is wrong, and some of the new leaves have started to die too.

BTW I planted it in clay soil, which I have since found out is very hard for these trees. I just dont want to move it again already for fear that I will shock it into death.

Thanks!

Welcome, Lphantgirl. This does sound like a possible fungal disease. I think I would try spraying it during its dormant winter season with something meant for that from my nursery.
To understand which exact disease may be affecting your tree, you can take leaf samples to your local county exchange.
